A bit of background to this first...
I've been looking for a good quality case to fit an 11" rim openback banjo for some time now.
I had three 11" banjos, with one hard case and a tenor banjo gig bag between them, so I really needed something else.
Most cases (and gig bags) are designed for the more common 5-string resonator banjos, and are therefore unsuitable for openback variants.
I finally found an excellent solution on Amazon - a Superior hard shell bump case, specifically for 11" rim openback banjos. They had the cases in black and brown tolex finishes. As it happened, davewhite was also looking for a similar case, so after a brief discussion with him, I ordered the brown case and he ordered the black.
When my case arrived a couple of days later, it seemed ideal, but when I got it home to try my banjo in it, it turned out to be the 12" rim version, too big for any of my instruments. Must have been a mix up, so I returned it with a full description of the problem expecting a replacement, but just got a refund.
After a month or so I decided to try my luck and ordered the case again, but once again Amazon sent me the wrong case - it must have been a labelling problem with their stock.
Due to the lack of quality options in the hard case line for my size of banjo (those that do exist are priced too high IMO), I decided to look at quality gig bags.
Coincidentally, I had also just acquired a Windsor banjo without a case, so I now needed two.
After doing some research, I decided to go for the Reunion Blues Continental from Thomann - pricey, but top quality and very easy to carry.
I also took a chance and ordered a Gretsch gig bag - it is designed for their Dixie banjo, but I liked the colour and thought it looked substantial, but neat too.
I had another Thomann voucher to use, so ordered both, the RB for either my DeFaoite or Chuck Lee and the Gretsch for the Windsor.
Well, the gig bags arrived yesterday (after ordering Monday afternoon!!) and I think they're both fantastic.
