We are going to stay at my brother-in-law's for 3 nights in Newbury on the 23rd July and the following day Mrs PCT57 is going to an art thingy at Islington Business Design Centre. Once I have got her there on the train I am thinking of nipping into the centre of London to look at some guitar shops, say Denmark Street and Mairants in Rathbone Place.
Any other suggestions?
Cheers
Phil

There's this place - www.newkingsroadguitars.co.uk/guitarshop/Acoustic.html- but it doesn't appear to be particularly well stocked, and some of the prices are a bit eye watering. Ivor Mairants always has a decent selection, but Denmark Street seems mainly to cater for foreign tourists nowadays. To be honest I don't think any of the London shops is a patch on Frailers...only a couple of hours from Euston!

If you're going to Ivor's, then there's a Hobgoblin branch also in Rathbone Place that might be interesting. And on Denmark Street check out Wunjos. Have a good time - full report expected Phil!

You can still find interesting stuff at Wunjo's on Denmark Street.

Hello Phil! We're out in Fulham so a quick trip to Parsons Green will get you here! I'm more than happy to walk to the tube station and get you.

I have great memories of the shop Bert Jansch used to have there in the late 70s/80s. It had some great guitars but I guess this venture never generated any real cash. You could meet some very interesting people here! I must get around to popping in!

A bit out of the way but with a great selection is Chandler in Kew. It's close to Kew tube station but that's a bit of a ride out on the District Line.

Well the day was enjoyable despite the weather - it was absolutely lashing it down all day I wandered around Denmark St and went in a few guitar shops but to be honest I was fairly underwhelmed and due to the weather lots of people in them. As a result I did not play anything. Ivor Mairants had some lovely guitars but unfortunately the Santa Cruz Skye 00 was not in stock and that was the guitar I wanted to try. I quickly came to the conclusion that apart from the Santa Cruz guitars at Ivor's there was nothing really much more to see that I can't see at Forsyth's/Frailers/Sounds Great here in the North West. If/when I go again I would definitely go out to Fulham and meet michaelwatts at the North American Guitar - the main place to see guitars that you could not see elsewhere In view of this I thought I would visit the British Museum - big mistake! absolutely heaving (worse due to the rain I imagine) with people from all over the world, so much so that the air was in short supply and it was difficult to see anything. Bit of a rant here - I find it so annoying that now everyone has phones with cameras they seem to want to take photos/videos of absolutely everything and just get in the way. Suffice to say I had a quick look at the mummies and after half an hour I was out of there. I decided that since I had a day to spend I should see as much as I could of the London sights. So armed with my daily Travel Card I got the tube down to the Embankment and then walked past the MOD, down Whitehall past Downing Street to Westminster, through St James Park to Buck House, down to St James House and along Pall Mall to the British Portrait/Art Gallery, all in the pouring rain, but fortunately my Gortex coat and surprisingly my Mat Allen (design outlet) shoes kept me 'dry' The gallery was busy but not as bad as the other place. I say works by Michelangelo, Turner, Constable and impressionist works (my favourites) by Lautrec, Monet, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Yarwood and Bremner (I'll get me coat ). It was then back to Angel to pick Lynne up and on to enjoy the delights of the rush hour tube to Paddingto for the train out to Newbury. So despite the horrendous weather I had a good day Cheers Phil
