Been very busy! Not done any recording yet, but knocking out more guitars instead. I've been getting all the gubbins together for a new body shape. I usually build on a full solera, but carving out the whole surface isn't my idea of fun so this is what I've come up with. My build only needs support for the brace gluing, so I built a couple of partial soleras. The first just has the X brace profile for gluing the X braces, and the second, I call the 'pizza' solera, just has the lower bout profile on. The finger braces aren't as critical so they get glued up on a non-specifc board. The main part of the upper bout is quite flat, although there's some profile but doesn't need a solera to achieve.

Upper transverse brace and X brace housings. The UTB will get a support added. I've build a couple of radius dishes before, messy job. I saw this other method, and had a go. Seems to work well. There's a bit of plywood with the right profile cut into it, and sandpaper double-sticked to the bottom. The stick it rests on is just a bit of 8mm threaded rod bolted into the bench. Don't look too closely please, the stick is in the wrong position in the photo, it's just staged for the camera.

I see you're applying yourself to saving time and effort: always a worthy cause and they look pretty efficient, too. (I hope you aren't coming up with these ideas when you should be doing your day job!)

Oh yes, I keep turning the handle so they give me 50p to put in the meter to keep the router running!

Can I ask a daft question? What are those slotted bits called? Are they all one piece with slots cut into it? Always wondered why some guitars have them and some just have a continuous strip.

Kerfed linings. They provide a flexible gluing platform for the front and back plates of a guitar as the sides are quite thin. Sometimes made up of continuous thin wood strips in multiple layers.
