Here's a great set of tunes from Steve -
Lovely playing, though the percussive thwacks in the last tune are a bit wearing after a while and too loud(ly recorded) for me. However, didn't spoil it for me thank goodness. What do you think?

My HB2 attempt at "Boney Crossing the Alps" ended up in "The Hecklers' Corner"

Ah, sorry to remind you of that again Dave, albeit inadvertently - you can at least console yourself that Steve seems oblivious to the fact that he is playing a guitar whose shape is totally unsuited to that style of music! Keith

Lovely tunes and great playing. I agree with you totally, Keith, about all this percussive stuff - there seems to be so much emphasis on it these days that you often lose the beauty of the tunes, especially gorgeous celtic tunes. The odd bit of tapping I can put up with (even do a little bit myself sometimes!!), but in general I'd rather do without it and just listen to the playing. Old or what!! Eric

I thought the best part of his playing was his accuracy and great sense of rhythm and tempo ...as if he was attached to a metronome. Re tone I thought [on phones] the tops sounded pretty harsh , mids nice and the bottom end a bit thin...given that he is a pro? and thus the recording is presumably pro also. Refreshing though to see that you don't need an "instrumental" guitar to play instrumentals..

I think I'm with you there Andrew re tone - the mids came off best! The tinselly top end made the thwacks harsher too probably. Actually, reading the Youtube blurb, it seems that the vid was an extract from a DVD, so maybe the sound suffered a bit in the transfer, though that was done by the same company that made the DVDs. Who knows? Anyway, the music still shone through!

My HB2 attempt at "Boney Crossing the Alps" ended up in "The Hecklers' Corner" I love Steve's version. I have struggled with this tune for some time but my feeble efforts are not even worthy of "Hecklers' Corner". You got there in the end; I have yet to get close. But it is this sort of challenge that makes playing so compelling. I shall keep torturing the strings till they succumb...
