I thought I'd start a thread to get the makers here to show off the jigs that they are chuffed with. We all make guitars and other fancy instruments by hand but that does invole machinery now and then when we need a bit of accuracy or repeatability that isn't possible or would be too time consuming to do by hand. I'll start with my jigs that I use to make pyramid bridges, there is still a bit of smoothing and softening of edges to do afterwards but lots of the work is done with a router in about 5 minutes. If I was smarter I would make more than one at a time but calls for a level of organisation that is way beyond me! This uses 3 jigs and a router held upside down in a router table with a beefy router bit with a follower bearing I start with a piece of wood, in this case Rosewood about 153x28mm (the originals are 6"x 1" but I feel that is a little small for todays hefty strings so I add a little to the width and depth) Then I pop it into this jig which creates the curve for the top Then into another one which will shape the ramps, I have clamped a piece of scrap to stop the endgrain splitting Then turn it over and do the other side like so Then into the next jig which shapes the ends and sides. First it is stood up to cut the angle on the ends Then the sides and that's it! This is how it looks after all the jiggery, a bit rough around the edges still And this is how it looks all tarted up and stuck on a guitar Rich

richm I Like those, very nice little set of bridge making jigs - tut tut about the plane sole down on the bench though I would probably have sawn some of the excess material off first reduces the loading on the cut and extends the cutter life.

Another router jig to radius your fretboards: Essentially an 18mm piece of MDF with a 3x2 fixed along its centre to make the jig able to be anchored in a vise. The MDF has two rebates run along the edges with an aluminium tube glued in each rebate (the rebates need to be parallel). A cradle with the required radius is then run along and across the tubes to form the cylindrical section: End view (router not shown but sits on top of the central plate. Overview: Slid sideways: Other side: Find it best to position the router to one side first and work along the length of the fretboard, working front to back and stepping along the length leaves a poor finish. I can change the curved plywood pieces on the sledge for ones with different radii - ones shown are for a 16 inch radius
