Not trying to encourage 'listens' but I tried to get some trailing in the last thingumebob that I put in The Plucky Duck. It works well (for me) when a song is too fast to fingerpick effectively but a strum would be too simplistic. All this talk of banjos is turning us into Trailer Trash!

All this talk of banjos is turning us into Trailer Trash! Why did I type 'trailing' when I meant 'frailing'? FFS (which is NOT what you think - it's Fat Finger Syndrome...) I've no problem being trailer trash ... I'll be your papa and your brother and your cousin and your uncle

Any thoughts on your choice yet WV?
Seems you'll be able to play either banjo type in whatever style you choose...did you try your hubby's Goodtime out for size? That should give you a really decent idea as to what you're after as it's a very playable instrument.

Not yet, have been working really long hours and when I get home all I want to do is sleep. I'm hoping to try it out this weekend.

This is exactly what I was wanting to do. I love the sound he's getting from his Banjo guitar:

That's really lovely. Interesting frailing technique, as from what I can see through the dodgy video he seems to eschew the idea that most of the movement should be from the wrist, and even seems to lead with his ring finger. I may have a go at that approach on five string later. The last time I tried clawhammer was at a banjo workshop at a folk festival and the instructor kept snapping, "No! From the wrist!" at me. I simply cannot make my hand fold into the "correct" shape.

Sounds like a nice, supportive teacher I use a combination of wrist and forearm movement, but there is very little lateral movement as evident in the video above. There is undoubtedly 'no one right way' to make this kind of music as the fella above demonstrates.
