Hi all...
I'm a 'plain fingerboard' man myself!
However...RobbieJ and I are just putting together the next Brook Guitars 'occasional' online mag (occasional, as in, we've not done one for a year!) and we've got a four-page feature in there on custom inlays etc, which are all done by Simon's son, Jack. There's some discussion as to where the line of 'good taste'/'bling' begins and ends, and there's also a feature on the Taw 'Art Nouveau' guitar that Jack built - a stunning piece of work, sonically AND visually which, for some reason, Acoustic Magazine have never shown much interest in doing a piece on...
Will let you know when the mag's complete, if anyone's interested...
Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin, good to see you on here! I'm certainly a bit ambivalent when it comes to decoration on a guitar. No I don't like bling, but yes some tasteful inlay work can set an instrument off beautifully. I'd love to read the online magazine when it's ready

Welcome Martin (13061 that is!). Please do link to the next edition of your Brook mag when it appears - really enjoyed the previous one. Keith

I'm in the 'less is more' camp personally.
I prefer simple dots or snowflakes, but i'm not a fan of no inlays, I think it can look too plain...
I really dislike anything where it's a tiger or a woman diving off a cliff or anything really OTT - I think it just looks cheesy like those commemorative plates you can buy from the sunday supplements!
The one exception I'll make is some of Andy Manson's stuff is amazing, but I'm not keen on the seahorses and what not, but I saw a Bluebird somewhere once that had this swirling abalone inlay all up the fingerboard and headstock and that looked pretty cool...

My main instrument is: probably needing new strings

MartinIs that the one at Ivor Maraint's I posted a picture of in 'the other place'? It certainly is a beautiful guitar... I loved the look. I've not got, nor will I ever have (I suspect) a Brook - but I'd like to see the mag when it's ready
