I mean that well-known tune, "Coda". Why is it that you can spend months learning a tune, but when it comes to 'Coda' it just seems like the last straw.

Ah, missclarktree, I think you’ll find that it’s becoming involved in those sheets of paper with black dots on them that are the cause of this problem. I never go down that particular avenue and my life is, consequently, coda free. It’s also fairly free from music playing of any quality BUT mercifully nae codas.

Just loose a few notes and make it easier. You can always put them back slowly as you feel more confident about the piece.

I've no idea what a coda is - is it not just a full stop sort of thing?

I've no idea what a coda is - is it not just a full stop sort of thing? It just means it's time to play something else. Keith

As I've said many times before. Years ago Martin Simpson gave me this advice. Play less notes. Every year I strive to be better by playing less and less notes. I guess it is a bit more difficult to do that with classical pieces!

I've already simplified it quite a lot, there's not many notes left.

After lot's of practice it might sound like a clip* from Music for Airports. *That's a clip that was left on the editing room floor.

I guess it is a bit more difficult to do that with classical pieces! I don't think that this is a very good advice, at least not for me. It's my fingers that take over the memorizing part when I learn a tune. Adding notes afterwards to make the tune more complete confuses them enormously. However, this might work for people who memorize tunes with their minds instead of their fingers.
