10 Things You Gotta do to Play Like Mick Ronson
The Rise and Fall og Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars was the first record that really grabbed my imagination when I was about 13. I wanted to play like Mick Ronson then and that was why I picked up a guitar in the first place. I still love listening to him play and I think this is a terrific article from a bit different perspective, giving a different kind of insight into a great Rock n Roll guitarist and a great man.

I once saw an interesting guitar in a window there so I went inside but I couldn't get the attention of either of the kids behind the counter because they were too engrossed in a porn vid they were evidently watching on a mobile phone. I didn't bother with the guitar.

Hello fellow Land Lubbers, For those who are not C.O.G's, I was grumbling about selling some guitars but it was to make space for a NGD. Sounds almost Cheerfully Optimistic! Lovely guitar! I love that crisp flamenco sound.

Good lookin' uke!
A lot of people don't like the sound of standard Aquilas. I swapped to Martins on my Gretsch and was amazed by the difference, a much more musical tone.
Can someone tell me why the fret marker is at 10th on a uke and 9th on a guitar?

Got a new one for my birthday! Concert banjo uke, sounds great! That looks superb! I really like the 'brass' hardware. I'd like to know a bit more about it Yes I love how it looks, matt black, ivory binding, aged brass hardware. Plays nice as well, a really chunky neck and nice action but you can dig without buzzing and sounds great, more banjo than uke to my ears. I wanted more volume for pub sessions and my sister lives in the Appalachians and is interested in mountain music. She sent me a book of fiddle tunes arranged for uke that sound fantastic on banjo uke. My local guitar shop, Lister's in Lowestoft, gave me a great deal and it was my birthday so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did, its great fun and sounds the business for mountain fiddle tunes and even Irish jigs and reels. PS I couldn't embed pic - see next post

Good work!
Onward and upward indeed!
I think playing playing in public is a process and it's about developing ways to do it. You can only really learn how to do it by doing it!

I finally succumbed.... Came home with a Les Paul as well, not sure how that happened. This amp sounds MUCH bigger than it looks! Altogether a boogie-tastic little set up!

I went to a pub session last night and it was packed, lots of musicians but lots of holidaymakers as well, with it being Easter. I nearly made excuses and left but I stayed and somehow I played the best I ever have in public, relaxed and in control. There's something about actually communicating with music and the response of listeners that gives music a whole new dimension and makes the experience very worthwhile.

Very sorry to hear that. He was one of the people who first got me interested in fingerstyle acoustic. Always loved listening to him.

I'm getting more comfortable playing straightforward acoustic fingerstyle folk arrangements. I love listening to boogie woogie piano and I mess around with boogie blues stuff on electric. Now's the time to put them together and try some fingerstyle boogie woogie, so I'm trying to learn Boogie Mysterioso by Mary Lou Williams arranged for solo fingerstyle guitar by Del Rey. I may be some time! I love Del Rey. She came to our uke group and gave us a workshop on fingerstyle blues uke which was brilliant, she plays so well and is a fine teacher with it. Good luck with cracking this one, the very thought of it makes my fingers ache. Great! I got a uke for Christmas so I'm working on that as well. I saw Del Rey has a blues uke album but only in USA. Yes, she plays really well and teaches in a nice upbeat way, the workshop must have been fun!

Well, the prongs ARE facing backwards, not off to the side.
