The guitar shop should be able to set up the Gretsch you tried to your preferences if you bought it. You could ask them how much the action could be lowered by before you considered buying.

Because you can!
I stopped looking at electric guitar forums because it just goes round and round. Endless discussions about tone and mods and not much about actually playing!
The thing that did it for me was a debate about the effect of strap buttons on tone. I assume it was started as a joke but too many people took it face value for me to feel comfortable.

There's an awful lot of truth in the thread title. I'm afraid I haven't much more to add. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. I'll Look out for the Tanglewood. One question I've got about the Paul Brett is where the preamp battery is located? On the aftermarket version of the Fishman it's in a bag inside the guitar. I would think that means if the battery died in the middle of a gig you'd have to take all the strings off to change the battery. Not very convenient.

I'm thinking about a new guitar and I'd be interested if anyone has any suggestions about ones to try before I buy. I'm looking for a parlour size electro-acoustic with a 46mm/1.8" nut and preferably 12 frets to the body, for under £500. So far I've found the Paul Brett Signature, Ashbury AG-45E, or maybe Seagull Coastline Folk, though that's a larger body, that I'll try to get to play. I'd like to know if there are any others available that you think would be worth trying.
Thanks!

I've been very impressed by every Blackstar amp I've tried. With the fly 3, for an extra £20 you get an extension cab and it can be used as speakers for laptop, tablet or MP3 player, as well as guitar amp with aux input, making it super versatile.

That Vaporiser looks cool but is a bit pokey for my needs. But I can't wait to get my hands on one of these!

Nice! I've been following Jason since DBT and I'm so glad he's produced the album we knew he had in him! I posted this in acoustic cafe a while ago and I still like the atmosphere of this performance.

I owe Mark Knopfler a pint. He probably doesn't remember though. A mate of mine suggested we go see a band at the Boat Club in Nottingham, just got their first album out, supposed to be pretty good. When we got in we headed to the bar, got some beers, sat down and started chatting. Turned out the blokes we sat next to were in the band. When I finished my pint I asked the guy sat next to me who told me he was the guitar player if he'd like a pint as his glass was empty. He laughed and told me he probably earned more than me so he'dget them in and headed off to the bar to buy a round, including a pint for me and my mate. He seemed like a very nice bloke indeed. Could play a bit as well as we found out later, along with a couple of hundred other people in the audience that night.
