My ring finger has a permanent split in it and to stop it worsening I use self adesive silk nail wrap. I cut enough to cover the split, apply and then cover with nail glue (superglue I guess, but has a built in brush). Then file to a smooth finish. Both are available from Amazon and last months. I might try the OPI to see if it stops the splitting.

I used the Nail envy stuff for a while but it peels easily and personally, i didn't find it very effective. I slammed my middle finger in swing doors when i was 13/14 and the nail came off completely, also the bed now grows a groove up the middle of the nail that used to split very easily. For the last 6 months i have used this: www.amazon.co.uk/Mavala-Scientifique-Plus-Nail-Hardener/dp/B076DJRBFP/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&qid=1611360038&refinements=p_89%3AMAVALA&s=beauty&sr=1-3I apply it every other day, sometimes every 3/4 if i forget (i'm still on the first bottle with a third left). Its not a polish its a liquid that absorbs into the nail itself after 10/15 seconds. My nails have never felt better, i can feel the tip of the nail is stronger and 'thicker'. I still run a file over them every 2/3 days to stop any edge or snag that could split; particularly on my middle finger. I tried silk wraps and Jonny is right, even after just 2/3 weeks my nail was noticeably weaker and brittle. I've thought about acrylic/ professional silk wraps but the upkeep and need to have infills or new sets is off putting to me so the Mavala has been transformative. YMMV ect... Regards David Hello David I'm wondering if this Mavala product is any better or different than Hard As Nails do you know? Thanks.

The Mavala stuff is very different.
It is a liquid that you brush on and then it is absorbed by the nail rather than going on like a nail polish. It takes 10-20 seconds to be absorbed and my understanding is that it 'bonds' all the layers of the nail together and strengthens them that way.
I used it every day for a week at first, then every other day and now maybe 1/2 times a week after a shower and by nails are much stronger and feel thicker too. The other benifit is that unlike Hard as Nails, it doesnt chip off over time.

When I had my hand injury and had to have surgery to remove the top joints of three of my fingers I also had to have a repair on the thumb to slightly reduce its length. To do this they had to completely remove the nail to repair the nail bed. Well, when the thumb nail grew back it was much thicker and harder than any of my nails had ever been, so maybe pull all of your nails out so that they will be thicker and stronger when they regrow. I'm not guaranteeing this as a solution, by hey worked for me.

Had to do something similar these last couple of weeks when my thumb nail developed a tiny split that would have developed into a full blown crack if I hadn't done anything. But I had ran out of the glue that I got from this website: www.amazingnails4guitarists.com/So instead I just used ordinary superglue, and then dip it in the acrylic powder that I still had. However, that orly beauty website looks quite good, so might have to invest in that. I do not, and have never had, any issues with any of my other nails, it always seems to be the thumb nail, and in exactly the same place. Robbie BTW the one thing I find would split my nail more than anything else is trying to open a stiff jar of marmite- guaranteed to slip and catch my thumb nail!
