The original Gotoh tuners on my 2008 Brook Torridge have never been great particularly after owning the guitar for a few years so back in May I decided to do something about it. They were stiff and 'lumpy' in operation. I did a bit of research and found that the Gotoh SGS510 'minis' looked good and were a direct replacement product. Brook Guitars put me on to Touchstone Tonewoods. I contacted them in May and fancied the Cosmo black ones for a change from chrome but they were out of stock so they ordered them. After a very long wait they arrived recently so I put them on today. Here are the original ones. And here are the new ones. They cost Ā£71.00, work really smoothly and the buttons are very comfortable for the fingers. I'm really pleased with them

Phil Taylor Iām sure that you will enjoy the improved function and aesthetic of the new tuning machines, an excellent choice.

Excellent looking thingies. Does this qualify you as a luthier?

You have inspired me Phil Taylor and I may replicate the replacement on my Brook Tamar. Cheers

I am going to be the outlier, and say that I prefer the more organic look of the originals. But function is very important, I'm glad you're pleased with the result.

look tres elegant Phil borborygmus... did you get them the wrong way round? Just asking as the new ones look far more organic to me... but I guess one man's organic is another man's cubism

Metal = inorganic. Wood, bone, and even plastic = organic. Both views valid

Iāve never seen that colour before, but I certainly like the look of it on those tuners, the curvy look of them is very nice as well.
I have a Taw with its original tuners that are now quite hit and miss and with what feels like dead spots where they seem to do nothing. They really need replacing, so if these 510 minis are an easy to fit straight forward replacement, it looks like they would be a good option for me.

That description of the how the tuners work on your Taw is just how mine were. These were the ones I ordered but the Cosmo black ones are out of stock and will probably need to be ordered Gotoh SGS510I know you'll do this but just check the dims and make sure the screw holes are in the same position. Phil Unfortunately Phil, I have less common sense than you give me credit for, so I've now measured to make sure the screw holes are in the same position and they look like they are. I've also checked against the measurements given in the Gotoh Parts Collection catalogue and that agrees. I just had a look at Axesrus and they have Gotohs SGL510Z which are available and look very similar, but I think may have a different ratio. I've no idea what practical difference that will make, although I assume that a higher ratio means more initial turning, but easier to achieve accurate tuning. Knowing that the SG510s are a straight replacement that look very nice, I'll get in touch with Touchstone to check availability as I don't mind waiting to get them. In the meantime, here are some pictures of my current tuners and thanks to you and francis for the information.

I just read through the catalogue and had a look at the Gotohs SGL510Z set again at Axesrus. They appear to be the same as the SG510s's but just fractionally larger on the main body to allow for the 21:1 ratio, all other dimensions relating to fitting appear to be the same.
Axesrus also look to be a bit cheaper, so I thought I would order from there, but guess what, they're out of stock so I'll give them a call tomorrow.
