Brilliant! I have a question or two though - Do I need one for each plectrum or can I stack several in one stand? Will they be available in different materials/finishes/colours? Do I need to specify plectrum size when ordering? Are these stands robust enough to stand the strains of gigging, or are they intended primarily for home use/display purposes? Could you do something about the potentially sharp ends? Maybe a blob of solder, or possibly tightly curling the ends back on themselves? Health and safety concerns might prove troublesome unless this is attended to. Have you any ideas about pricing/distribution outlets/celebrity endorsements etc? All the very best with your excellent product Joe! Keith

I hate to burst your bubble, Joe, but not only has this been done before, they've made a whole TV series about it....

Keith - it is possible to stack several plectrums in the stand, here is a photo with another four of mine: The physics are curious - I found one or two picks very stable in the stand, a few more can cause it to topple over, but then adding more picks increases stability again. For this reason please specify one of the following options when ordering: Option A: I have more money than sense please provide one stand per plectrum Option B: I am a cheapskate please provide a single stand I am going to stuff into it as many picks as I can There is no middle way.

Thanks for going to the trouble of conducting such exhaustive capacity tests on your exciting and innovative product, but I think it's going to have to be Option B then Joe. Keith

Keith, to answer your other questions: - Unfortunately the initial release will be not be available in different colours. However we do plan to offer a range of colours in future releases, along with an extensive advertising campaign to persuade customers to "upgrade", for purely cosmetic reasons. - The stand seems to accommodate most normal plectrum sizes so if you think yours is an unusual shape or size I suggest you keep it to yourself. - Gigging with the stand should be possible if you can find a space on the bandstand which is not likely to get trodden on. - Sharp ends etc. There may be a "deluxe" version in a future release, with the end dipped in candlewax. In the meantime if you are concerned about potential injuries, may I suggest wearing a thick pair of gloves when using the stand? - Pricing/outlets/endorsements. The stand is currently available exclusively on acousticsoundboard.com. I hope to announce a list of pretty impressive celebrity endorsers very shortly*. And, if you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford it!
Cheers
* Keith, I'll send you a freebie if you'll let me put your name on it - or maybe a "Chesterton Signature Edition", with properly soldered sharp ends?

Joe, your answers are impressive, and really show you've thought things through very well indeed and not hastily rushed into prototype stage too soon. And, I have to say how delighted I am to be asked to be your first celebrity endorser . "Chesterton Signature Edition" sounds about right, as you suggest. And maybe a nice wooden presentation box to go with it...? Whatever, Joe, just get your people to contact my people to work out the fine details and percentages etc. Keith

You wouldn't want to spoil the looks of that by putting a plectrum on it. It's one of those marvels of design that could stand alone as a piece of sculpture. I'm afraid I daren't buy one as I'd spend too much time trying to draw people's attention to it.

British innovation at it's best. This could be the invention that kick starts the jobs market My only question is, how do you transport the stand? Does it come with any kind of strap to carry it with? Perhaps some kind of thin latex band could be manufactured to attach it to one's fingers, or even the neck? Said band could also hold the plectra in place whilst in transit?

Brilliant!
Unfortunately I don't use plecs. Would it be worth waiting for a thumbpick version ?

I suspect Bernd would want one in gold if he ever started using a plectrum
