Wow - there's a lot of love for ukes here!
Word gets around quickly, I was just asked this afternoon to start a ukulele orchestra here in Chipping Norton by a neighbour - I hope I didn't come over too rude!!
Keith - the kids will be 7 - 11. Thanks Leo for the link, looks very blue! Works of art Colin.
I'm looking for decent tab sites now, not just to use to teach, but for quirky fingerstyle pieces for me to learn... perhaps some Bach?

My main instrument is: probably needing new strings

I gave away my soprano uke on this 'ere forum - so I'm down to two... and this lovely mango wood concert... jonnymosco - they come in more colours than just blue, you know - and you can also get them with a shark bridge

Thanks for the links Keith - I've had a go at Gymnopodie 1 already... lack of strings restricts a bit unfortunately... fun experimenting.
One Direction and Frozen likely to be what I should be learning though.

And here it is: Made by Hora in Romania. Incredibly well made, powerful and fullish tone (for a uke), Aquila strings... full review to follow on Thomann. I'll replace the plastic nut and saddle soon. Impressed with how quickly Thomann delivered it. Jonny

Good lookin' uke!
A lot of people don't like the sound of standard Aquilas. I swapped to Martins on my Gretsch and was amazed by the difference, a much more musical tone.
Can someone tell me why the fret marker is at 10th on a uke and 9th on a guitar?

................. Can someone tell me why the fret marker is at 10th on a uke and 9th on a guitar? er, no. But some ukes have a 9th fret dot, and some guitars (esp Selmer/Macaferri types) have 10th fret dots. A fair number of mandolins have 10th fret dots too. Weird. Unless, of course, you know differently.... Keith

I agree about strings - I'll be putting Martins on it soon - they transformed my crap Johnson uke.
Any ideas for methods for Kids? I have Ukulele Basics by Faber, which seems fine, but there must be something better.
Cheers

I have never changed the strings on my uke. I've only had it a year - do you think it would) help? (of course I haven't played it more than once either, so they are pretty much pristine from a playing point of view... Have no idea what kind of strings are on it - is it possible to tell by looking?
