I started one up years ago when I lived in Luxembourg and through that I was quickly sucked in to the open mic nights at a local Irish pub. It was the thing that got me into performing for the first time and I met some great people through it. Good luck with your new club lefthook !

Sadly it is not getting much attention, had a few interested parties but they lived too far away, hopefully it will improve!!

Thanks to your post I checked for guitar clubs in my area. I found two acoustic and one classic guitar clubs and attended their meetings. It was a lot of fun! I even got to perform on my new Seagull S6 - my first performance in front of audience for over 30 years! I came to realize that I am not as good as I thought I am - a bit of reality check, still enjoyed it enough to consider going back.

Sounds like that might get more success? As has also been suggested, a local folk club or acoustic music club could be a good way in to meeting and playing with other local guitarists

Hi, I read this post and thought it was a good idea. I've been a bedroom guitarist for too many years so decided to put an ad in gumtree to see if anyone else was interested in joining a guitar club, I've got about 12 replies so far. I've managed to hire a room in my local community centre. This is the first time I've done anything like this, there's no rules it's just bring your guitar and have some fun. I'll let you know how it goes. Ian I'd be interested to know how this is progressing, Ian. Sounds like you've put a bit of effort in as well

Hi Martin, After lot of positive feedback from a gumtree ad Ithought it was going to do well but sadly only two people turned up on the first night, We did have a good laugh. Even worse the second week no one turned up. So I've put the idea to bed. Nothing ventured nothing gained and all that.

Well done for trying, Ian. Pity it didn't work out as you'd hoped. Keith

Maybe we should resurrect the idea from ages ago about encouraging regional meetings of members from this forum? I know there are a few that do take place (Ian & Shar, Paul's and others) - I'm sure we could sort out some more between us that have a chance of becoming regular. At least we have the opportunity to contact each other on here.

Hi Keith and Martin,
I think nowdays the Internet in particular YouTube play a big part in learning, which I must admit I've also enjoyed, but I think it's really important for people to have a jam with other people. Maybe it's old hat but I think you can learn so much from human interaction.
