I saw the film a couple of weeks ago and I hated it. Normally I enjoy Tarantino's films but this one is awful. Having, now, read the above article my hatred has deepened. I am actually upset.

I read this this morning with something approaching disbelief. Why would Tarantino need to use a real 145 year old guitar? It can't be for authenticity. The guitar would have been new at the time the film was set, so a replica would have been more authentic. I bet he didn't use 145 year old costumes or guns.
Moreover, why would Martin rent them the guitar anyway?
This type of senseless destruction makes me more annoyed than the thought of hedge funds buying rare instruments as investments and locking them away in vaults.

I have to agree that Martin must have crazy to lend it. Just totally unnecessary.

Never liked Tarantino, even though everyone makes out he's a genius. Touch of the emperor's new clothes if you ask me. As for the Martin incident, he should be ashamed of himself

As for the Martin incident, he should be ashamed of himself I quite like his films, although I don't know about him being perceived as a 'genius'....my missus hates anything to do with him or his films. Haven't seen the new one, but I wonder if the Martin smashing incident made the final cut?

I think Andrew could be near the truth - publicity stunt, and I bet it was actually only one of the "pretend" good ones that got trashed. Cynical? Moi?

Well if the martin museum were stupid enough to rent such a rare guitar out of to a film set what do u expect. What do u expect to happen to any rare/ valuable guitars inthe hands of people that probably don't appreciate what it is.

According to one account I've read, Tarantino knew full well what was happening and it wasn't an accident at all. We'll probably never know. As a filmmaker I find his apparent delight in stylised, OTT blood and gore pretty unpleasant. Maybe I'm just not postmodern enough or something
