I want my guitars to look good. grime is nothing I'd refer to as "good looking" and I have no idea why a dirty guitar is supposed to sound better than a cleaned one.
So yes, a more or less regular string change always goes along with cleaning and polishing. I use a Lakewood microfibre cloth, which is the best I ever tried. And I use some diabolic tinctures (GHS Gorgomyte, d'Andrea lemon oil, Dunlop Formula 65, Axe Wax, all depending on which instrument I clean) as well. My guitars still sound great, none of the stuff I used on them burnt any hole in them, and they did not fall apart so far. However, I like to watch them and to touch them and play them. So I'll certainly go on keeping them in a proper shape.

I think I might be part of a small minority but each time I change strings, which is about every 3 months my guitars get cleaned, and I enjoy it! In between times I use a D'addario micro fibre soft cloth to keep it nice before "playing out" which is 7/8 nights a month. Is this considered deviant behaviour? I have 8 or 9 guitars out in my living room most of the time. I keep them dusted and polished. Change strings at least once a month on all but the 12 string.

The problem is this guitar is that is played out a lot! It will take a few bumps and stuff!
