Having been suffering from man-flu since Monday, I have only just unpacked my "Function Room" bag, wherein Dave's CD was hiding. I'm just off to have a proper listen to it right now!

I've had a listen and sent Dave a message, but realised I haven't commented here. I love it - a varied CD, lots of different tunings and guitars being used, and the tunes are interesting, melodic and really well played. I'm not sure how much use the book will get - some of dem tunes are well tricky sounding, but it's great to have the package, and at least I can have a go at Candi's Rag, as it's in a sensible tuning In fact, it's so good, I've used a snippet from the CD opener 'Samhain' for the intro to our HB8 videos (with Dave's permission, of course).

I played it twice on the way down from Halifax, interspersed with some Sandy Denny of course, but had my first real concentrated listen to it last night. Absolutely love it, very Dave, but then I like all of his playing. Talented builder, great player, what else can this chap do?

Keith A right good listen was that! Enjoyed it v much - agree with Colin that it's very "Dave", but that's what is so good about it. How lovely to not only be able to write and play such great music but to make the instruments on which to play it. The sound quality was excellent too, very natural and conveyed all the De Faoite-iosity of Dave's lovely instruments. A superb addition to my stack of Forum member-made CDs! Thanks Dave! Keith

Very much enjoyed your CD Dave, have listened to it a good few times, particularly like the flow of tracks 8-12, could imagine some pretty cool extended jams born out of last two. Really shows off the sonic qualities of your guitars, ethereal and shimmery I think.

Hi Dave,
I've only just got round to listening to your CD. It's fab! As others have said, you have a fine touch and the recording is excellent. Favourite track for me is An Fea Caol. Well done Iain

Well, I have been listening to this CD all week and what a fine album it is The CD has got a lovely natural recording sound throughout, the playing is spot on and the compositions are excellent. Listening with headphones I could hear no noticeable background noise which is an achievement with simple home recording and one I generally struggle with myself. Dave said "It’s called “Diamonds in the Rough” as the recordings include string and fret squeaks and the occasional intakes of breath". Sorry Dave but I don't agree with that. The string and fret squeaks are nothing that you wouldn't find on many of the worlds top guitar players CD's and I know because I obsessed with this aspect when recording my CD and did hours of 'listening research'. Apart from one track, Candi's Rag, this album definitely has a strong Celtic feel which of course goes hand in hand with the lovely sounding De Faoite guitars used throughout. As mentioned previously all of the compositions are really good with 'The Garron Brook' being my personal favourite and one I shall be trying to learn in the future. 'Diamond House' in my opinion would fit seamlessly on any Simon Fox CD who is a master of this genre. My congratulations go to davewhite for this 'gem' of a CD which he must be proud of. Phil
