I followed my heart and bought the Hathway. I spent 15 minutes playing the Eastman and then strolled sprinted up the street to play the Hathway. Only took a couple of minutes to decide but I played longer for the pleasure of it. Thanks everyone for the advice. Congratulations! Sounds like you've connected to the Hathaway and "playing longer for the pleasure of it" is a very positive sign! I hope you have lots of fun music making on it. Any chance of seeing a picture? We've had a few days recently where waiting for it to get light has been a long term wait! That Hathaway looks beautiful! With that style of body the mellower sound you mentioned makes sense and it looks like a very manageable and comfortable body size. Enjoy! Mark

Thanks!
Definitely gives the sound I’m looking for! The Eastman sounded good too just not quite what I wanted. The Hathway is more balanced, the Eastman biased towards the treble, to my ears at least.
On reflection I think I’d actually made the decision the first time I played it and coming back and doing a head to head Hora as close as was possible) 3 days later confirmed it.

Fortunately that Octave comes it’s a case because that’s where I’d be living if I bought it I suspect . Plus I already have an octave mandolin... Actually that one was discussed over on mandolincafé recently. If you look at the back there’s some marking where apparently someone has stuck a pad to stop it slipping, doubt it would affect the sound but would take some work to get the original finish back I did imagine.

I hadn’t noticed that. It is described as excellent condition, but looks anything but. Some people price their stuff very strangely on eBay. There is a rather lovely looking fylde signature octavious bouzouki that I noticed a few weeks ago, and I am sure it had a starting price of 1900. Well, it obviously didn’t sell as it’s back up, but this time at a price of 2000. Weird! I am sure a brand new Octavious isn’t that much ! Robbie

Keith I noticed that Fylde’s prices have gone up quite a bit since I last looked, so maybe he is using that as an excuse. But still very odd indeed!
