Bit late, but I got a great deal on a Waterloo WL-S Deluxe. I've been on the lookout for one of these for a while now, I own another Waterloo and use it as my main guitar, and was after another to use in open tunings for gigs. The string spacing etc is the same on both so it's easy for me to alternate. These are pretty rare on these shores, so I jumped on it when it cropped up, and managed to sell one of my guitars to fund it. It sounds wonderfully rich, considering it's ladder braced, it's got a depth that just doesn't make sense - a really sweet little guitar, and a fantastic pairing with my existing Waterloo. I'm chuffed. Here's couple of pics: fullsizeoutput_72a by Amit Dattani, on Flickr And one of them both together: IMG_1870 by Amit Dattani, on Flickr

Fabulous. I’m getting a bit of a hankering for a Waterloo myself...

I may be biased - but they're the mutts nuts.

I may be biased - but they're the mutts nuts. I do like a good technical term. I played one of these (or at least a ladder braced something) a year or so ago - great fun.

Fun is definitely the right word. Fab articulation, and the lack of too many overtones definitely helps me when singing. Love them.

Cool - I quite fancy one of the WL-14 but I really need to stop buying guitars for a year or two!!

Riverman said that to me well over two years ago so I think that is showing remarkable restraint. Mmmm .......perhaps two years is a long time for Richard.......watch this space I reckon
Lovely sunburst.

A lovely pair indeed! I'm with you on the overtone / singing thing too.

The best fun guitar I’ve played in recent years was a Gibson Robert Johnson model. I thought it a gimmick but it sounded great. I then read an interview with Ralph McTell who has one and reckoned it the best recording guitar he’d ever known. I started searching for one seriously only to find they were some kind of limited thing. And as we know, if you find a good Gibson you should snap it up there and then!

I reckon it’s more versatile than it first appears, buy buy buy I started to get interested in one when I saw that James Elkington is using one and his album from last year is one of my favourites already - the album was recorded with a 30s Gibson L-00 at wilco's loft studio but when James couldn't afford to buy the guitar off of Jeff Tweedy, Jeff apparently told him to buy a Waterloo and that's what he's been using since... Coda Music had a second hand one for £1600 recently that I was seriously tempted by but I only just bought my Lowden in October!!

Yep I recently caught a James Elkington video where he was using one, really impressive stuff. There’s a cool Julian Lage vid doing the rounds too where he uses one to great effect. Super comfortable too!
