You mean like this? Or maybe this? Hopefully not this? I do use an "anchor little finger" for fingerstyle, but not tried it with strumming yet, will do!

I used to put my little finger down on the pickguard and use it as a pivot point for accuracy and tone control. (Should be followed by one of those sticky tonguey out face thingies for people who don't agree.) I did that for years because Stefan Grossman told me to. It never felt natural. And then I realised that many guitar players I admired never did that. I stopped. It was better :-) SaveSave

I just tried it out on 'Your Ghost', and I absolutely couldn't gel with it at all, it was impossible for me to play like that, strum AND keep the little finger anchored.

...for strumming I use the little finger as a guide from time to time - not actually planted on the top, but brushing up and down it with the strums. No idea why - didn't even realise I did it until someone asked! Keith

Interesting conversation my little finger is a guide for me too on and off, a bit like a rudder, Mark Hanson advises against it but I find it quite relaxing... that's a lovely song I couldn't imagine it with any other pattern given the simple and continuous repetition, but then again it could easily become a successful interpretation because of that, the song reminds me a little bit of Wicked Games.

Yes, it's a fab song, love Kristin/Throwing Muses etc. 'Wicked Game' is another one I play a lot, just strummed chords though (unlike the record).

And would you know it there's a lovely exercise that just appeared on my JustinGuitar course that should help with this too! (Scroll to 'String Skipping Exercise' at the bottom): www.justinguitar.com/en/IM-156-PickedFingerstyle.phpBeen at it five mins every day (the Kristin Hersh song) and am improving, although still not 100% accuracy.
