I recently tried Thomastik Spectrum, nice sound but they didn't feel right on the fingers. I've moved back to Newtone DADGAD for Open Tunings.

Elixir PhB for me. I know, most ppl here do not like them, but for me they are perfect. 12s and 13s, depending on the guitar.

With the exception of my antique Martins I use either John Pearse PB (600L or 700M) or D’Addario PB EJ16 (L) or EJ 17 (M) . Been that way since 1988. I have tried many others but always end up going back to them.

What I will say is don’t try Martin Monel strings- they are bloody awful!

A lot of you seem to prefer PG to 80/20, just wondering why. Most of the acoustic players I love had famous songs in the 70's before PBs were invented, and I am always trying to get that type of tone. Every time I swap over to PB I can't stand it. I will say I like old strings though, and after a month they pretty much both sound the same (comparing the Martin SPs here).

If you want that old school tone definitely try the D'Addario Nickel Bronze. Similar to monel strings, but much much nicer in tone. They don't have that bronze harshness. Me though, I have settled on D'Addario Exp 80/20's and absolutely love them. Robbie

I even have one guitar where I like the brashness of the Ernie Ball Aly Bronze (though I know Francis, who built it disagrees with me!). But it's all a matter of taste, really.

@robbiej I was intrigued by your earlier post in this thread and I put a set of D’Addario 1253 Nickle bronze strings on my 12 fret Gibson Advanced Jumbo, about a week ago and I am very pleased with the results, no loss of thumps Gibson bass and sparkly trebles. I shall try them on the Martin D15s when I can summon up the courage to tackle the slotted headstock
