Grant, all the very best for a speedy and effective recovery. My wife had a mild stroke back in January. She was very fortunate in that she suffered no debilitary effects, although she still experiences ongoing tingling sensations in the right side; it was a real shock though and a pretty big wake up call.
Cheers,
Ian

Hi, really sorry to hear this but I'm reassured by your positive attitude. You're probably already fed up with pee telling you about my illnesses but I tell you this for a purpose. In January 1983, I awoke virtually paralysed from the neck down. Every attempt at moving any joint was agony. It wasn't a stroke, but something they called Sarcoidosis which meant that my lymphatic system was going crazy and affecting all my joints and telling me that all my joints were smashed. All my activity was curtailed although I think I went back to work far too soon, and didn;t do myself or my career any good at all.
My musical activity stopped dea and my wife put my D35 mando and Dobro in the attic ...for ten years! (I coldn't bear to look at them unable to play them). As I slowly recovered, I took up photography and found a gift that I had not thought I had, which gave me the impetus to get out of the house, and becoming quite successful in the club circuit as an exhibitor, judge and speaker and eventually won an international gold medal.
in '93, I was strong enough to get my instruments down from the attic ...the D35 was still in tune! and I learnt from scratch again.
Last year, 2017. They told me I had throat cancer. The treatment was indescribably disgusting and made me very weak - couldn't lift a guitar, and, of course, lost my singing voice. I'm back playing and singing again, different, more difficult but I'm out and doing it. People say I was brave. I wasn't brave - I had no choice.
Moral: the only thing that could limit you is not the illness, it is only a lack of determination.
If you really want to - you will. Best, Andy.
