Ah, yes I have seen the plectrum and fingers technique, but I think he was just using the thumb on base notes, no plectrum.
Probably uses both as required.

Watched Jools Holland interview last night followed by him playing acoustic.
I can't be the only one to notice his right hand finger picking with the index finger tucked tightly into his palm.
Is this a unique style or uncommon?

Hi Andy, Thanks for the iPad to Zoom connection Amazon suggestion. I shall take a look. With regard to my Auto Record problem, I know you have said you are content using the Manual setting, which is fine for me too. However as a new machine it should work on Auto and I was trying to establish whether it was faulty or was it just my failure to make the right settings. Messaging Customer Support in USA only referred me to distributors in Germany from which I got no reply. So time to abandon ship and use Manual.

Martin, Thank you for redirecting my query on the H2n recorder. I guessed I may have placed it in the wrong section.
Keith, Many thanks for your investigation into the intricacies of the functions of the recorder and your suggestions.
I am basically an elderly virgin when it comes to any of this kind of equipment and have not yet got to the computer plugin and Garageband etc.
The USB cable for the Zoom does not fit the ipad and my alternative laptop is a Chromebook which I think has no facility for such recordings.
Also, from my searches, once the correct Apple ipad cable is obtained for the Zoom I believe there is a problem regarding "power drain" or some similar expression, which requires a further adapter.
Perhaps Keith you can confirm if this is the case.
With regard to changing the speed of playback. I assumed this perhaps was a commonly used tool for experimentation with songwriters. For me it was just curiosity. Increasing speed did however add a small but noticeable tremolo effect on longer held notes.
My attempts to use the Auto Record setting was simply to not have to reach out to press the Start Button. Pitching my voice at the first note is a bit hit and miss and I thought Auto would be less of a distraction.
As you rightly said Keith in "Auto REC" the mic detects the input of voice or instrument and the point of ending or silence. After much Manual page turning I found and set the the Start and Stop settings to -24dB just as illustrated in the Manual. That may be the key to solving the "jumping files". I will try changing the dB settings and report back. Herb.

I am hoping someone has come across a problem I have found with the Zoom H2n. It is new although purchased last year. Version 3.
When using AUTO RECORD the song recording when listened on PLAYBACK is split into many files. eg File 1 to File 100 depending on number of verses or length of recording. Each file is about 1 second in length of time, at which point it stops. Pressing the PLAY button produces another 1 second, and so on.
MANUAL RECORD does not produce this problem but I cannot find if the recorder is faulty in some way or there is a setting that is causing the problem.
A further but smaller problem is a TREMOLO effect produced when a PLAYBACK speed is increased from 100% to say 125%.
Any advice would be welcome but I should say I have tried customer support in the USA without much guidance.
Hoping everyone and loved ones are safe and well, Herb.

Wow! what a lovely story. And they both lived happily ever after.
It's what all musicians hope to find in an instrument I suppose.

I remember the days when I had a sweep over like that. Couple of lessons from the Charlton brothers, but soon got fed up with the gallon cans of lacquer littering the house.

Since our first family computer introduced me to the opportunity to read so much about instruments and guitars in particular, I came across the often discussed "red label" Yamaha's of the 70's." Got myself a couple, but because of my very limited abilities offer no comments on their sound quality. Leaving that to you guys. Anyone have an opinion or experience with any of these?

Enjoyed your description of the search, and for all the sometimes reported failure of Gibson to maintain quality, they do continue it seems to set the standards and satisfy most buyers.
With so many competitors these days I guess they know the something that keeps them ahead of the game. Glad you found a happy result.

I don't know, but could it have something to do with the curvature of the earth; or perhaps calculating finger radii when pressing down the first and sixth strings together?
Will everyone making a contribution here please take note, I did say sixth, and not, definitely not sickth. That! word drives me up the wall.
That's what comes from being in the E.U. I suppose. Please, please don't answer that.
