Dave this is the other side the problem is that when you turn the peg it does nothing to the string you cannot tighten/loosen it.

Thanks Martin Ok the problem is that the tuner has become detached. It is suggested that the two round rivets are filed down so I can take the back off and see what the problem is. This seems very drastic to me as well as very longwinded but is there a better way? The tuners are 55+ years old they are as far as I am aware the original tuners so I can't buy a matching replacement it will be six new tuners. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a 55 year old guitar and the tuning peg has packed up I am trying to post a photo so I can ask for help on the forum as I am not sure that the advice given by my local guitar shop is correct. Can someone assist in telling me how to attach a photo to this post
Thanks

Dave, a serious (honest) question.... Do you need to be a luthier to build an electric guitar? Or just a competent carpenter? I suppose I'm asking how much difference to an electric guitar, if any, do different tone woods make? Leo, If it's not a hollow body then pretty much a carpenter and a dab hand with a router but you still have to handle thin wood plates for the veneers/drop tops and also the fretboard. As to your second question I refer you to the electric nerds who can wax lyrical about different wood sounds. I know nada Plug it in and turn it up to 11 I have been looking for an amp that goes up to 11 but the EU have banned them apparently something to do with people suffering with Hearing loss at rock concerts

I agree, best to ignore, but I felt it my public duty to warn the other forum. Jonny Very proper and public spirited of you JM saw the post and it pulled no punches. Well done or "respect" as some people might say

As usual a very thoughtful, intelligent moderate set of views from all the posters. This to me is a very important place as I have met online and in person many people who have now become friends and whose opinions, knowledge and judgment I respect highly as well as the thoughtfulness and care of many members. This includes you Leo particularly over the activities you embarked on last year in the Middle East Then there is the quality bit, those of you who have seen and heard play are in the main excellent players I am not going to single anyone out.The luthiers like Dave and Sam who I am eternally jealous of as I can just about saw a piece of wood in half. I see some of their creations and I think WOW!!! what talent and dedication. The spammers that come on to promote themselves I can live with as I can with the trolls, after all we meet trolls in real life don't we and the internet reflect what happens in life well I think so. I would suggests a couple of stickies/threads the first being My vintage guitar or instrument, remember this is "My acoustic" not just guitars and banjoes, bongos, pianos are also acoustic instruments. Mainly cause I play one but I know that quite a few of you have them in your collection. This would be a slightly different thread to my guitar in that it might attract people who were more interested in vintage guitars. The second thread idea is My music that is people who write and play their own music might feel happier with a dedicated thread and it might encourage people who write music to seek out lyricists and vice versa For me this is a place of peace ,fun and learning and listening. I can't expect anything more from the internet. Don't worry about the size its the quality that matters :dutch-oven:
