Hey guys - I ran a weekend here at Halsway Manor with Ben Walker this year, and I'm looking at doing something again in 2016 - what I'd like to know from everyone is what kind of content they'd be interested in - one tutor or a couple, best time of year etc. I'd like to complement and not clash with other events.
All input much appreciated

Hey Ben - Gav here (Bradninch) - if you want to borrow my Oberon for a few weeks to have a feel for it you're very welcome. Not totally representative as it is a 70s one, but Roger rates it. PM me or something. Would love to have a go on your Alexander sometime. Currently playing the new Falstaff quite a lot.
Cheers
Gav

Yep, done it on a couple of old boxes. You'll need to enlarge the old holes with a drill bit (I recommend a hand drill or a screwdriver and bit on a low torque setting not a power drill) The insert just screws in with a slot head driver (about electrical size), and the new thumbscrews fit inside the tube. The trick with a concertina is to preserve the air-tightness wherever possible!

you can buy machine screw inserts and new thumbscrews that will fix it permanently. PM me if you need any more advice

Lovely review. Nice to see an in depth public report on what we do/try to do here!
I'd welcome any interest/ideas/input on courses people might like to see here - I'm happy to try and put something together!

What a great day. Wish I could have stayed around for the other bits, but the curse of a gigging musician is you have to go and do your own gigs. Great to meet everyone, very nice to compare lots of lovely guitars and a treat for me to be able to bring a bunch of guitar players together here at Halsway.

I've had necks reprofiled on both a fylde Falstaff and an 1897 model Washburn parlor - great improvements to both, both done by experienced builders.

Rumbled! not the best quality sounding vid, but it'd be great to meet any of you when we're out and about - I will have the new Fylde guitar in tow. Actually that vid was shot when we supported Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill, so quite esteemed company to be in!!

I was put off Sarah's book by the rules early on that say 'never join in with something you don't know'. Part of my own (C tuning) workshops are about helping people to busk along using standard progression theory. It is a great book, but it is quite prescriptive.

not sure if I'm in the right place, but I'm just organising my first residential guitar weekend - Ben Walker is going to be running a couple of days of DADGAD workshops on arrangement and accompaniment in open tuning. He's a great guy and a superlative player. He has an array of rather tasty guitars including a 30s gibson archtop and a quite stunning custom Fylde Falstaff (with Fan frets for extra alliteration). Ben has just been nominated for a fourth BBC Radio 2 Folk Award The event is at Halsway Manor, Somerset on the weekend of the 25 April this year. We're also going to be joined by ace guitar and bouzouki maker Kai Toenjes showing off some of his stunning new guitar creations. Hope it is of interest to some of you - details can be found at www.halswaymanor.org.uk/portal/alias__Halsway/lang__en/tabid__4461/eventid__656/default.aspxTheres' a few places left - the best bit is I get to go myself. very much looking forward to it It runs alongside our arts and crafts workshops if anyone has friends or partners that want to join them and aren't of the guitar twiddling persuasion.
