Any list of those who have shaped the landscape of ‘modern fingerpicking’ is bound to cause disagreement and debate. Of the original list, John Renbourn and James Taylor are the ones that have inspired me most. I wouldn’t have included Tommy Emmanual and Andy McKee, both are fine showmen and technicians but I don’t feel any emotional connection to their music.
I agree with many of the suggestions above. We are blessed to have such an abundance of talent to draw on. My playing has been influenced by: Rev Gary Davis Stephan Grossman Woody Mann Mike Dowling Keb Mo Roy Harper John Gladwin (Amazing Blondell) Mark Knopfler

Loved it. It's soo... laid back. Great accompaniment from Robbie McIntosh and the pianist too.

In interesting question alan2007 to which you will find your own answer through developing your own style. Over the years established artists often play their well known ‘hits’ with small changes to keep the audience (and themselves) interested. Early blues players did the same. If they can do it, so can you. Always worth trying to follow Woody Mann’s advice: “play to express, not impress”.

I've attended too many funerals over the last 12 months, father time is marching on.
I think its best for those left behind to choose, but I'd be very happy if they chose this one:
:
It would also be nice if they played one of my songs. Iain

Glad you had a wonderful day leoroberts. Steve knows his stuff. I went to one of his songwriting workshops with fatfingerjohn a couple of years ago. It was lot of fun and I learnt a fair bit. There's nothing like being in the company of someone who has lots of talent, some of it does rub off. Little things like how they hold the guitar, how hard they hit the strings etc.

I too get pain in my right shoulder if I play a dreadnought. My solution? - I don't play deadnoughts anymore. I think its because the depth and the lower bout are too big. I prefer 00 and 000 sizes these days.

I got one today, having sold an item yesterday. I'm guessing if you don't sell anything for a while the offers dry up.

I played the video to my other half and she said "He's not married is he"
Well, to my cloth ears, I prefer 432Hz for the jazz clip but 440Hz for the blues and folk clips as they seemed brighter and clearer. I don't play jazz but I do play blues and folk so perhaps that explains the difference. Who knows? (who cares?)
