I'm sure Cams has seen this - and can possibly relate...

I really enjoyed this, Danny Bhoy is an extremely funny man and we should see more of him. This reminded me of when I was a child, every New Years Eve, my mum and all her family would put on Jimmy Shand and his Band records (all 78s, anyone remember them?) and dance until they dropped. No Scottish connections in my family as far as I know, I think they just liked the music and dancing. This lot probably do it much better than my old mum did.

Jimmy Shand. Now you’re talking.

I'm sure Cams has seen this - and can possibly relate... I have seen it. It's a prime example of the saying 'it's funny because it's true'. I'm usually the guy pointing at people and trying to get them to do it right. Never works.

I wandered into one of these one night in Ullapool. Best night I’d had in years.

I was planning a holiday in Scotland next summer. Now at least I know the warning signs..

I'm with Andy, some of the best nights I've had have been at a ceilidh, OK you need a drink or two to fully appreciate the potential for complete carnage. HB10?

I have played for loads. However, I need to be in the band as I am incapable of any form of dancing - I simply don't understand it; though I do understand that others derive pleasure from it. There's no accounting for taste. (As you might well say back to me!)

Well I ‘m glad that nobody actually stripped the widow (perhaps that happened later) Anyway you are all bonkers I must be the only sane person on this forum.

Our band has just been booked for our first ceilidh next month. Ceilidh bands (in this area anyway) are paid a lot more than what you'd get for a pub gig, but I can see now that this is "danger money". I'm looking forward to it

I played in a ceilidh band for three years and loved it. We did pub gigs for very little money and weddings for pretty decent money. I do enjoy dancing at a good celiidh, but not at wedding ones generally where nobody knows what they're doing.

I also played in one for a while years back. As a guitar player I used to get very bored, start daydreaming and then wake up in the wrong tune.
I do like a good dance though!

The first LP I ever bought was Back Home to Auchtermuchty by Jimmy Shand and his Band. He was a Fife man and his spirit lives on up here. The financial adviser we employed when we moved up here is his great nephew and a guy who plays electric guitar with a band who comes to our closed mic nights owns Jimmy Shand's motorbike. More useless Jimmy Shand facts available on request
