Is anyone aware of any issues with the supply of Newtone strings? Availability has always been a bit patchy but my usual sources - Fretsounds and Strings Direct - seem to have sold out of most types and the same is true of American stores.
It is possible to buy from Newtone direct, albeit using one of the less well designed websites I have encountered. There seems to be some repackaging of the Heritage strings I favour and perhaps that is a factor.

That was direct from them I think the websit3 has been redesigned recently. P.S. they also have new packaging which is sealed like the d’Addario packets; haven’t got round to fitting them yet though.

I heard a rumour that he's been buying all existing stocks of Newtones so as to corner the market in the event of a "no deal' Brexit...

Any possible shortage of Newtones would trump all other Brexit considerations. I am concerned that the Treasury has not highlighted this as a potential risk. On the other hand, an ocarolan Newtones mountain in Somerset might protect us all. Brian

Ah, 'tis true I do have a few sets; not from deliberate stockpiling, but largely because I've played a lot less this year, and haven't often managed to find time to change strings.
Strings Direct stopped listing them a while ago, but the loss of Fretsounds as a source is really sad, unless you want one of the less popular sets they still seem to have in stock.
I have ordered from the website, and found it reasonably OK, though delivery not as prompt as from Steve at Fretsounds.
Maybe the new owner at Newtone is hoping to save on costs by only distributing direct to customer? They certainly do seem to be repackaging most of their stuff now.
Eagle Music still have their own brand "Puretone" sets on their website - these, and their custom sets were obtained from Newtone. Though they may not be now; and they may not even be available at all, as their website often doesn't specify when out of stock - you only find out when you order.
So, for now I'm OK for Masterclass 12-54 and Heritage 11-47, which are the sets i use. When they run out perhaps I'll have to give up guitar playing....

We'd surely need a democratically binding forum poll before such a disastrous event took place...? Maybe some new strings nearly as good as Newtones will arrive early in the New Year...I certainly hope so.

Surely they were always available direct? I used tohave a baritone 12 string, 14/14 to 52/64 (or similar) and Malcolm was always very helpful.

Hi,
I tried a set a few years ago and wasn't too impressed but perhaps it was the wrong spec.
At Ralph McTell's recent concert in Sheffield, Newtone had a small table where they were selling 6 string sets of 'Ralph McTell Custom PBs'. I bought a set on the basis if they were good enough for him they must be more than good enough for me. I'm going to change strings over the break (my D'addario EXPs usually last me 4-6 months) so I'll see what they are like. The custom set strings are 11,15,22,32,42,52. The notes on the back from RMcT say 'These are the strings and gauges I use on all my guitars. You're going to love them!'

Yes, they have always sold direct, and Malcolm was always helpful. But he retired some 3 years or so ago. Neil Silverman (former long-term employee)is now the man in charge. He seems helpful too! Supply is always erratic - I use mediums. I try and buy 10 packets at a time but sometimes have to settle for 3 or 4.

I have just ordered 10 sets on Heritage 12s from Newtone direct. By agreeing to receive their newsletter, I got a discount of 10%. Postage is very reasonable at a fixed rate for the UK of £1.20 and £3 + any tax) for the rest of the world.
Delivery is quoted at up to 14 days, though they are currently dispatching 50% of orders withon 36 hours (Fretsounds were much quicker) and I shall let you know when they appear.

Update - my strings have just arrived, barely 48 hours after I ordered them from the Newtone web site.
While I was only charged £1.20 for postage, the actual cost was £7.30. The reverse is usually the case with most companies.
The strings come in new foil, sealed packages and with 2 free Newtone stickers.
What with 10% off for signing up to their newsletter, I am one very happy customer.
On top of this, my string supply is now Brexit-proof for at least another 12-18 months, regardless of any stockpiling in Somerset...
