What was the first song/piece of music you listened to today, the first of January 2019.
I played this at 7:30am today, as I think it sums up the first day of the year for me, and it's haunting, enchanting, and beautiful sound always puts me under a spell. Of course, it is not the original, but it is the best version for my tastes.

That's a coincidence I also put January Man on as my first bit of music, I like the Jansch version too but I put the Rachel Unthank & the Winterset version on instead.

Mr Anderson’s by John McCusker, because I’m currently trying to learn it on mandolin
Earlier versions seem to be known as Ann Maguire’s Silver Wedding. Not sure if it was renamed because of the murdered schoolteacher?

Just after midnight I was explaining to my daughter that in my early days my Mum and Dad always had BBC TV on for the New Year celebration from the 'White Heather Club'. Andy Stewart, Kenneth McKellar, Moira Anderson, Robin Hall and Jimmy McGregor etc. But there was always a very drunk scot who 'sang' a song about a 'sparra' and I could still remember quite a lot of it. I then found it on YouTube so am sharing it with you here. If it sounds a bit like Martin or Doc in the early hours at Halifax then you know why now. Enjoy (if that's the right word...)

Nothing posh. It was a CD set called Let's Dance, which is just a collection of '40s and '50s pop and jazz tracks.
