Well, I've had my slot-head Brook Lyn for 5 1/2 years now and it's just taken me 45 minutes to do the 6 monthly Elixir string change I really do hate it so thank goodness for Eixir strings. I find it so bloody fiddly and always puncture my finger with the end of a string. I also think perhaps I'm gradually coming to dislike the look of it as well It's a good job I love everything else about this guitar or it would be going - rant over Phil

They look great but I wouldn't buy one again. Too much faff.

I don't see the problem with slotheads, at least with 6 stringers. I don't find it any more difficult. I must be doing something wrong!!!
Mind you, I hate doing my slothead 12er as there's so little room to fiddle about in, and I always used to hate my old Eko paddlehead 12er just because there were so many strings. In fact 12 of them. It was what started me off many years ago on changing only the wound strings, and doing the plain ones only every two or three "changes" - something I carried over to all my guitars, and still usually do.

I love them and have at least 12. Doesn’t take too long to change strings and it’s worth it.
I hate Elixir strings with a passion!

Slotheads prove that there is a God, and that "it" has a sense of humour.
Mind you, 45 minutes and one finger puncture is pretty good going I'd say - especially as you no doubt gave it a bit of clean, Phil?

I've made over 80 of them, and will always use one as my default style of head. It takes no longer to change the strings on a slot head than it does a solid head even with my damaged hand. It's down to operator error not the equipment. I'll give you a lesson if you want.

I have two of them I prefer slots over paddle heads. I think they are esy to change once I learned how.

I've had quite a few slot heads in the past, 3 out of my 5 current guitars are slot heads and the one I recently sold was also a slot head so familiar with some very painful stabs to my fingertips and even sometimes the resulting blood spots that can be really frustrating trying to remove. I used to struggle quite a bit with slot head string changes, but seem to have developed my own way of doing it now so it doesn't really take me much longer to do than on an ordinary paddle head. However, despite being ok with the slot head end of the strings, on my nylon strung guitars I still struggle with the string fixing at the bridge. I rarely seem to be able to achieve a neat fixing that is also tight enough to prevent any string slippage. I tried bridge beads on a couple of occasions and both times had a plain string snap on me, so think I may have fitted them incorrectly, though I can't think there is much to do wrong. Anyway, I still love slot heads, particularly 12 fretter slot heads, and think they are well worth any extra effort that may be needed to change strings. curmudgeon did one of his excellent videos (linked below) on string changing on a slot head and this is the basically the method I now use. I think the only difference is that I sometimes wind or loop all strings towards the outside of the head stock to prevent them rubbing against he middle section. Also this method would need to be adapted if using round-core strings, which Newtone say need to be at tension before cutting. String Change

Don't say this Phil.... I ordered a Brook Lyn after seeing the pictures of yours (and copied some of your spec!) Don't worry, I absolutely love my Brook Lyn. Rest assured I was exaggerating when I said I was beginning to dislike the look of it to make make my post more interesting I have actually come to terms with the fact that it's probably me being inept and I have promised myself that in July when I change the strings again I will do some homework first. When is you Brook due? Phil

I've got one slot and three paddles. I prefer my slot for string changes by quite a large margin. Weird, huh?

Ah ha, so you are a mere mortal Phil... 'Not until you learn the ways of the slot head string change, a guitar God will you be...' as spoken by the wise guitar Jedi, Coda.
