I've got one slot and three paddles. I prefer my slot for string changes by quite a large margin. Weird, huh? No, not weird at all, in fact it shows how, despite all appearances, you are truly well adjusted.

I guess I don't really notice the difference between slot and paddle head.
Because it appears I have two of each ..... but I had to check them all to see what they were!

There’s a reason slot heads fell out of fashion ;-)

I have no issue with changing strings on a slot head. I do prefer the look of a slot head. As somebody earlier said, 12 fret slot heads just look more guitar-like somehow.

I always end up with several punctured fingertips from string changes, and I have never owned a slot-head. Probably a good thing by the sounds of it

I love the look of slotties, and though I've never done a string change on a steel strung guitar I have restrung a classical.

Hi Folks, I used to see a load of complaints about restringing slotheads on the American forums. All but two of my flat tops are slot-heads including two 12 strings. So, anyway, I made a YouTube Video showing my methodology which has proven very popular.
Here it is: heads.

I LOVE slotheads - If I have another Brook built it will be a slothead. And I, too, HATE Elixir strings with a passion - John Pearse for me (or Martin Monel).

Apart from my Waterloo WL-12, and my Santa Cruz "Roy Smeck" all my flattops are slotheads. I didn't buy them for that, but for the fretboard width.
Once I found a guitar with the neck dimensions that suited me it just happened to be a 12 fret slotted headstock. Then, of course, I discovered the other benefits of the original dreadnought design compared to the 14 fret (1934 and on)

This reminds me that the strings on my 00015s are long overdue a change. I usually find this a bit of a faff, so it tends to keep the same strings much longer than my paddle head guitars. Gonna try the instructional video posted above this time.

I love them and have at least 12. Doesn’t take too long to change strings and it’s worth it. I hate Elixir strings with a passion! Hi Chris, I see your Brook count has increased by one and another forum member's has decreased by one Phil

I've made over 80 of them, and will always use one as my default style of head. It takes no longer to change the strings on a slot head than it does a solid head even with my damaged hand. It's down to operator error not the equipment. I'll give you a lesson if you want. Sounds like a topic for Halifax
