Just a head's up to anyone in travelling distance. I went to see what the Lincoln Folk Club meetings were like, for the first time on Thursday evening (07/02/2019). They meet every two weeks, at Grafton House on Newland in Lincoln, from 8pm to 11pm. Went alone, and I was made very welcome. I didn't take my guitar but many members encouraged me to in the future. The format is, you simply turn up (it's £1 admission : first time is free, for players/performers, or £2 admission if you want to just listen), and if you want to play, you can perform a couple of songs/tracks. Almost everyone has a go at performing, and almost everyone joins in singing along too. It was actually very charming and enjoyable, I shall be going regularly I think. Thanks to Les Brown, a local performer (and artist) who I saw perform at the Drill Hall, and emailed, who suggested I pop along to the Folk Club meeting. Les made me feel very welcome, so thank you if you read this forum ! Plenty of different instruments and styles of music played, from traditional concertina sea shanty stuff, to classical guitar.

NikGnashers, I went along to the Norwich Folk Club for the first time last autumn and have been a few times since. Like you I'd never been to a folk club before, so wasn't sure what to expect... I've found it's a great place to meet local musicians and play, recommended. How are you getting on with your Lowden?

Hopefully going there will give me enough confidence to play to an audience, as I do seem to be a little 'stage fright' at the moment !
Really enjoying the Lowden, not only does it sound great, it also plays really well so kudos to the shop who set it up too. I don't get enough free time to really plug it in much, but the times I have, I am astounded that is sounds almost identical to the way it sounds naturally. I suppose the combination of the supplied bags anthem pick up, and the Fishman amp must work well.
