Almost all of my recordings were made onto tape, some professional studio stuff, but most on either my old Revox or Ferrograph reel to reel machines. If I could have recorded straight to vinyl, then that would have been even better! Why use a digital gizmo to try to emulate tape, when you can just use tape? Probably due to the cost and time needed to maintain a tape deck in good condition.

I'm a beta tester for Klanghelm, they really are fantastic value. His MJUC (tube compressor emulation) is one of only two digital compressors I will use. He has 'cut down' free versions of most of his plugs too, IVGI is the free saturation one, I have used it on masters before! klanghelm.com/contents/products/IVGI/IVGI.phpMJUC is the only compressor I use on vocals. The DC8C compressor is remarkably flexible. SDDR saturation plugin is as good as any other I have. Pleased you are a beta tester. I presume he is working on some new stuff?

Not recently, not heard anything from Tony since the last DC8C3 update, must have been around a year ago? I think he's always got something on the go, so fingers crossed. His VU meter is the best software one I've found too, matches the ballistics on my hardware Sifam VUs extremely closely. I also beta test for Tokyo Dawn Labs and Valhalla DSP, latest exciting news is the long awaited/worked on Valhalla Delay is gonna drop very soon, will be the last plugin delay anyone needs!

I used to do a lot more recording than I do now. My favourite compressor by far was the Joe Meek MC Opto compressor. It had a "sound" which technically a compressor shouldn't but things felt a little warmer, a little more analogy... a little smushy cosyness that I'd compare to "tape" sound.
I have a hardware version but I think there are plugin versions now. If you've not heard them give them a go...plus they look cool as F.

Valhalla Delay. I’m waiting for that.
As for the Joe Meek, it really is worth trying out the mjuc from Klanghelm. Amazingly good and costs very little. Tony at Klanghelm is a genius.

I seem to remember that Revox tape recorders were the ones to die for back in in the (19 ) 60s/70s...
