I had a go on one of these recently and thought my my that’s nice. I really should sort out this GAS problem. I would rather give my money to a small independent maker though. What’s about that’s D28 ish?

Trouble is, Shaun, I don't think all Martin D28's sound or play the same. So when you add in the fact that a small builder adds his (or her) own signature build quality, you'll get a guitar that might resemble a D28, but won't match what you've played. It'll arguably be better, of course, but that depends on what you're looking for. Having said that, Atkin does a D28 inspired dreadnought. I've never played one, but all the Atkin inspired by classic guitars that I have played have been tremendous instruments. Here it is.Brook does a dreadnought (the Teign) and you can specify the back and sides wood. I've never played one of those either, but Brook does have a definitive signature sound that all their instruments seem to display. I like it, but I'd guess not everybody does. It is a sort of inbuilt reverb. I describe it as "shimmery" And I'm guessing that loads of individual luthiers will build you a spruce and rosewood dread. But when I was looking for a D28, I bought one used (from this forum and it was an HD28) and I love it. It was substantially less expensive used than a luthier build, though quite possibly not as good.

I’ve probably got too many guitars anyway.

However, popped into Dawsons in Leeds today and played an Avalon A2-20. That was also very nice. £1500! Great guitar for that money.

Yeah.....but deep down in your heart, you want a D28, don’t you, bellyshere. Not some very adequate substitute, but yer actual very own “jennwine” D28. You know it makes sense. You know it’s right for your vibe. You know you deserve one. Best do the job properly. Take your time, we’re all right behind you and looking forward to the pics.... No pressure.....any time in the next week is fine by us.....

Had a go on a D28 and an HD28 today in PMT. Didn't like the d28 they had there but loved the HD28. Didn't buy either. Went home played my Lowden and thought that's nice. I might change my mind tomorrow.

There's a lovely looking Brook Teign at Forsyths... They make a comparison to the venerable D28 in their blurb too, highlighting the differences more than similarities. I think your cat would approve.

She said for f@*ks sake you have a house full of guitars, play them. I think you should get a dog then. Canines are scientifically proven to assist in GAS*. *I may have made up the bit about GAS** and dogs. **GAS is not medically proven***. If in doubt consult your physician. ***But my dog still thinks I should get a 335.

My cat (Doris) brought me a dead rat. I think she is trying to say buy more guitars now.

Hmmm - interesting.
Did the rat say anything before it drew its last?
Unfortunately, I'm reading this as a pointer away from a D28 and towards a Collings 12 fret slope shoulder dread.
Bugger of a thing to restring, what with those slot heads an' all.
Please keep us posted on any further portents.
