I’ve had a long journey with acoustic guitars but today I finally played, and subsequently bought, a guitar that really gave me goosebumps. I purchased a used Bourgeois ‘Ray Lamontagne’ Signature guitar (his name is signed on the label otherwise you wouldn’t know). Essentially, I believe it’s similar to the Country Boy and it’s Spruce and Mahogany. In essence I love it’s aesthetic but it was the sound that did it. I have simply never ever played a guitar that has the richness and depth of tone this has. For ages: years, I have longed for a Martin D18 with Gibson J45 Bass but until today it’s not happened. I can’t actually say that the bass strings on this Bourgeois are Gibson sounding but there is a clarity and resonance that quite simply blows me away. Additionally it’s easy to play and I’m finding certain chords, notably F when capo’d are easy as hell. .

There are many, many brands of guitar that I've never played but the three N. American ones I'd hope to experience before I snuff it would be Bourgeois, Santa Cruz and Froggy Bottom - probably in that order. Mind you, they'd all have to be smaller models, probably 00, but that instrument just looks fantastic dawkins - congratulations - I hope we get to hear something of it soon! Peter

I really like the traditional aesthetic of Bourgeois guitars and in particular the O.M. shape.
Nice looking guitar 😊

Very nice it’s a great feeling when you find a guitar with mojo. I too recently found a signature guitar with mojo. Enjoy it!

Richness, depth, clarity, resonance and easy to play. That has to make it an excellent choice - enjoy! Mark

Peter All great guitars but Santa Cruz would be at the top of my list. The best guitar I’ve played in the last decade was from them!

I had an OMPW Santa Cruz years ago but I didn’t get on with it. In particular the bass strings were very dull and uninspiring but I guess it was that individual guitar. This Bourgeois is simply unbelievable and I cannot believe the tone it produces. I’ve had numerous ‘luthier’ or ‘high end’ guitars and none have made me feel like this. Perhaps I just found the one for me.

I now own 2 Santa Cruz guitars and they are exceptional (in my mind). One will be a NGD post in the near future. Though I've payed a few others that were not so good. Every 12 fret Santa Cruz I have played has been excellent.

The two SCGC guitars that have stunned me are the Eric Skye 00 and the OM grand - both a tad deeper than the standard models.
That Skye guitar is astonishing. You could play anything on that OM grand.
When I just want to drown myself in happiness I get out my SC PWOM and hit the ragtime beat!

You should get yourself down to North American Guitar in London and get all these ticked off your bucket list then!
I went down had a strum on all three and a few Collings and a few others as well... well worth the trek!
Congrats on the Bourgeois dawkins looks like a beaut!

What a terrifyingly intimidating prospect.
If ever I plucked up the courage to set out on that mission I would wet my pants at the TNAG door, burst into tears and walk all the way home, a broken man.

The range there can be a bit daunting and disorientating!

They are super nice and chances are you'll be the only person in the shop.

Truly excellent choice sir, congratulations. This wasn't from Frailers by any chance was it ? They had one until recently and notice it has disappeared from their stock list, as did the Country Boy 00 they had; I bought that one 😉
I concur wholeheartedly with your assessment of the tone, mine too has the same rich sound that you describe, quite unlike any of the more mainstream higher end brands that I've owned previously. Oh and the build quality is sublime, not a splinter in sight, beautifully sanded bracing and even the side reinforcing strips are tapered at their ends. The most I've ever spent on a guitar and worth every penny in my view.
Enjoy it.

Congrats to Dawkins, on his Bourgie. When I commenced my search for a 12 fret dread way back in the last century, I stumbled across a Bourgeois DS260 in Chandlers of Kew.
Notwithstanding the Collings and SCGC I currently play, it was possibly the finest guitar I have owned but sadly it was only a 1 & 3/4" nut width with a very shallow neck, so didn't fit me.
My main guitars are Collings - DS2h, DS1, and 0002h and all are delights, (which can be seen on my YouTube channel (Silly Moustache)
I also have a Santa Cruz ... their version of a Roy Smeck.
looking forward to a video of the new Bourgeois!
Ol' Andy
