Following on from my guitar-bodied mandolin "Celtic Tigger" I thought I'd see how this body would work for a short scale (498mm) five course octave mandolin and it turns out that it works pretty well. Here's "Imbolc" - Lawson's Cypress top from "The Tree"; mahogany reclaimed from furniture for the back, sides and neck; snakewood bindings,"porthole" soundport, end-graft and armrest; ebony headstock veneers, fingerboard, heel-cap and neck strap button; Indian Rosewood bridge; mahogany bound/recessed rosette; black/ pear/ black purflings; Rubner silver tuners with ebony buttons; silver tailpiece; gold EVO fretwire and K&K twinspot pickup. It fits nicely into a baritone ukulele gig bag: Here's quick run through of "Glory of the Sun" in GDGDG tuning recorded into my ZOOM H4N in muti-track mode and mixed with flat EQ and no added effects: "Glory of the Sun"

Sounds glorious, Dave. Hope no-one persuades you to part with it before Halifax!

Ooh, that looks, and sounds, superb. And an arm bevel, too...
This was a bit of a sneaky build!

Hi, Some time ago, I got hold of a Decent Hofner Archtop (accordng to serial number one of the very last ... if not "THE" last, and had it converted to an octave mandolin.
It sounded remarkable but I found the 25" scale length a tad unwieldy, however the person that bought it from me was happy -so it was a good deal all around.

Another triumph Mr White, though I hope you have planted another POC for when the Tree is all used up.

Okay, so it's an armrest rather than a bevel (got me gigs on now) but the point still stands - cushty

Yes indeed - looks wonderful and sounds wonderful. I strongly suspect that's down to it being wonderful! Mark

Nice work davewhite. I'm liking the armrest- apparently held in place by magic! Cheers Gary
