I was only very recently introduced to Albanie Falletta’s music by this video from Acoustic Guitar, the US magazine. She has a really quirky, bluesy, folky, individual take on New Orleans style vocal jazz. I subsequently bought her solo album, ‘Black Coffee Blues’ on Bandcamp. albaniefalletta.bandcamp.com/album/black-coffee-blues-2She’s done a few albums with a more full-on trad jazz/New Orleans swing band, but I prefer her stripped-back solo/duet stuff, where her guitar playing is to the fore and you can really hear some of the unusual chord changes in the songwriting.

Good find Matt. I like people who play like this, this sort of, what do they call it: Jazzy Blues. Not just a very good singer but she's always doing something interesting on the guitar isn't she. It makes me think how easy it is to rely on cliches when trying to play blues. In my mind she seems to break out of that.
thanks for that Martin
