Just got back from a brief visit to NYC, spotted our AirBnB guy said he was a musician so had the BreadKnife ask if he'd lend me a guitar whilst we were there.
He very generously lent me his Martin Backpacker for the duration. Never played one before, always excited to try a new guitar but also have something to pick away on during our visit.
Absolutely loved NYC it's fanatstic, and our little pad in Brooklyn was lovely.
The Martin Backpacker was horrendous though, from it's chubby stunted neck profile to it's unholdable body shape it's much more suited to smashing out home runs than it is anything musical.
Has anyone else tried these monstrosities??
(yes I know I should be grateful for the loan but where the fun in that!!)

Dangad, I agree wholeheartedly with your "review". I once owned a Martin Backpacker.... and gave it away!!!

Loads of options these days for holidayable small guitar-like instruments. From the abundance of cheap but excellent ukes to things like the Seagull Merlin. Less so for actual guitars. I have a Startone 1/2 size classical (£35) that I keep under my desk at work and have taken it on holiday several times. It's quite fun to play, the setup is fine and has a nut width of 45mm. I also played one of these once and it wasn't bad: www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_gl_2nt_guitarlele.htm

There is currently a resurgence in cheap parlour models from people like Gresch, Tanglewood and Cort. Some of them even have a decent width next!

That looks pretty nice. I have the kids' mini classical tuned like a guitarlele (ADGCEA)

The Backpacker was the reason why I decided to get my Brunner OG Basic. I never regretted that step. The Backpacker is fine for self-defence. Musical or nonmusical. But that's about it. Brunner OG Basic
