I wanted to put a post up, and hopefully others will reply and add to it.
Before I got to know a few local Folk musicians, I had no idea there were any open mic events still on the go locally, but since I have discovered and attended a few now, I feel they are a valuable resource.
Of course, when you are just starting out at 'performing', busking is an option, but unless you are very confident and already play at a decent level, it can be brutal and not at all helpful to your confidence.
These open mic events I have attended, have not only been a very friendly introduction to performing, but also a fantastic way for me to meet other musicians, and also learn from them. I have seen some amazing weird and wonderful instruments I have never even heard of before, let alone seen people play, and I would urge anyone who has never been to an open mic, to try and find one locally.
So, in Lincolnshire, I have discovered the following :
The Write Note Nettleham
This takes place in the 'HUB' which is the Nettleham Library and Café in the centre of the village. It is very popular with usually over 30 people playing a wide variety of instruments, singing, spoken poetry, and more.
Time is 12:15pm to 2:15pm on the 2nd Saturday of each month. It's FREE and the Café is ace !
Next one is Dec 14th.
The Write Note Lincoln
Takes place at the central library in Lincoln. It is not quite as popular as the Nettleham one, but still a very friendly and well worth attending.
Time is 12:00 midday to 2:00pm on the 3rd Saturday of each month. FREE !
Folk Night at the Queen's Head in Kirton Lindsey (DN21 4NF)
Takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, starting at 8pm
Next one Dec 11th FREE
Folk night at the Three Horseshoes in Scotton (DN21 3QX)
Takes place the 2nd Saturday of the month, starting at 8:30pm. FREE
This is brilliant, a very nice village pub, excellent food, and I had an amazing night with the other musicians, singers, etc..
Of course, people who just want to listen are most welcome too.
Please add to this list if you know of any more
