I'm attempting to remove a Fishman Rare Earth Blend system from a guitar but I'm being thwarted by the cable, which I can't detach from its fixing. Can any of you clever people figure out what's going here and advise? Thanks.

Ah yes that's it, thanks! Now then, trying to snip those ties, which have no slack in them, when I can't see what I'm doing and there's hardly room for my hand in there, has the unmistakeable whiff of disaster. I'll maybe revisit it tomorrow, when I haven't had a drink - or maybe I should have another drink and go for it now.....

I'd be tempted to try with regular nail clippers. Wide enough blade gap to get the tie in, but not much else, and easy enough to use by feel alone.

... if the white square things in the pic are simply sticky fixer pads surely it'd be easier just to pull them, or prise them off, releasing the pickup wires and ties all in one go?

The adhesive on those can be quite keen, Keith. I've used them before, when I was fitting out a narrowboat. They really do get hold, and I'd be worried about it splintering the wood. Safer to leave the pads in place in my opinion.

Right guys, 'tis done. I had similar reservations about prising the adhesive stickers off as the sides are layered and there was a possibility of delamination (is there such a word or does that mean removing young sheep....?). Anyway, managed to very carefully snip one lot of ties with narrow-nosed clippers. The others were much harder to get a grip of so I tried very gently pulling on the sticky thing and was finally able to carefully peel it away.
As always thanks so much.
Look out for a couple of pick-ups in the for sale section. Hopefully the proceeds will be going toward a little addition to the music room....

Why did you want to remove it?

I only play that guitar at home so the pick-up is superfluous.

You might try using a blow dryer to soften the adhesive.
