Hi all Now that everybody has more time on their hands and of course want to improve their guitar playing, I've made my Guitar Basics videos available online again. They are viewable on my YouTube channel. If you fancy some blurb with it, they also can be found on my blogThey are aimed at classical guitarists, but as the focus is good technique and stress-free playing, the principles apply to steel string playing. They discuss the basics, however, they are aimed at the serious player who wants to improve their playing and not the complete beginner. Once the first few are over, they are in no particular order and can be dipped in to. Any questions or observations, don't hesitate to comment in this thread. Have fun and keep safe! Jonny

I use these and find them invaluable, very clear, straight to the point and most importantly, they really do help. They have certainly helped me and I would recommend them to anyone trying to improve or even perhaps to pinpoint specific areas to improve.

Thanks; as a new owner of a classical (well nylon string "crossover") this looks very useful.
For the past week or so I've been trying to adopt the "classical" way of holding the guitar but am finding it both uncomfortable and harder to find the right fret. Is this something that will just get easier with time?

Thanks; as a new owner of a classical (well nylon string "crossover") this looks very useful. For the past week or so I've been trying to adopt the "classical" way of holding the guitar but am finding it both uncomfortable and harder to find the right fret. Is this something that will just get easier with time? I play nylon string ( 1 classical and 1 crossover) now probably 90% of the time, in fact my steel string guitars are barely used at all now. I went through what you have described, it felt horribly awkward at first but started to feel more natural in just a matter of weeks and makes barring and stretches much easier. For me, it's made positive difference and I find it also makes the guitar more stable. I always use guitar support, I tried a few and ended up with the Gitano which works well for me. You may find this video helpful.

Perseverance is paying off; it's feeling more natural and I'm finding it is easier to find the right note and play it cleanly. jonnymosco thanks again for sharing; the videos are great, concise and to the point and, hopefully easing me out of my ingrained bad habits.

Thanks. I'm glad they're helping.
Ultimate, is a relaxed sitting position to also give you good access to the fingerboard. Good luck.
