lads and lassies, lockdown has numbed my brain enough to dig out my zoom a3 and plitter with it again. I get some pretty usable tones out of it but because I don't use it often its like star trek techno every time I decide to twiddle? I'm competent with my line 6 m13 or boss pedals (who isnt) but this unit just makes me look dumb every time. Have any of you found it trying or am I just a fud? Your honesty won't hurt my feelings, im beginning to sense a certain amount of fuddery in my general psyche! Cheers guildeo

I used to have a Zoom multi-effects thingy for acoustic guitar a few years ago - don't remember what it was called, but it was green and had a pedal on the side of it. I'd bought for recording purposes and so to test it out I recorded loads of short samples with different effects and levels to get to know the thing. After about 50 samples, which sounded fine, I decided to sell it - life's too short to fiddle around with hundreds of potential possibilites when probably all I'd use would be two or three of them. Ah, it was a Zoom A2, or something like that. haven't missed it at all!

I like a wee touch of reverb and sometimes a smidgeon of chorus and the a3 does that easily but there's loads more to it if I spent the time. I have a fishman loudbox for the very infrequent times I'll use an acoustic live (not doing much of that at all) and that reverb gave me the idea for the a3 in my tiny studio, I'll just stab away at the buttons and let you know if I find the ultimate tone by mistake.

At home I don't use an amp for acoustic guitar - much prefer it that way! Wood, wire and fingernails + thumbpick. Occasionally flatpick + or - fingernails.
Playing "out" I tend to use whatever PA may be in the venue or take my own PA. Sometimes I'll use my AER combo, usually on it's own, occasionally as a monitor while the main signal goes to PA. Actually the AER works well with me and my mate together- 2 guitars, two voices, with mandolin and/or bass sometimes instead of guitar. They all go via my mixer then into the combo. Don't use effects "live" either - usually the room itself is enough.
My acoustic guitar recordings are done via Zoom H2n directly into Cakewalk, and are mostly without effects; occasionally a very little medium room reverb added after recording.
Really missing playing "out" lately!

I don't have an A3, but have owned two Zoom multitrack recorders and, while they're brilliant, I've needed the manual on hand even after using them for years! So I don't think you're fuddery - just that Zoom stuff is not always that user friendly!

When I first read your post it didn't click, but I have a Zoom A3. I bought it for the anti-feedback and boost functions. To be honest, I've rarely payed around with the controls, I just dial up the guitar characteristics I'm looking for and leave it at that. It's wasted on me to be honest. I'm not much for twiddling for tone.
But I'll be interested in knowing what you do with it.
