Usually I tie around the headstock but for some reason on one guitar I've had the strap attached to the front strap button on the body of the guitar.
I rarely played that instrument and it always felt uncomfortable. I would even get backache if I played it standing up for more than about 15 minutes and fretting just felt awkward.
Noticed the difference this evening (usually they're on their stands and I just pick one up and play it without thinking much about it) and changed it to the headstock.
Aaaaaaahhhhhh.
Like slipping into a warm bath. Candles, bubbles and everything.
I like that guitar again now.

Treble side of heel is really the only place that works for me. Snugs the guitar up nicely and gives a slight natural tilt allowing the fingerboard to be slightly more visible.

3 on the heel, 1 on the headstock. The headstock one being the shorter scale guitar. Attached to a headstock strap. But if I try a headstock fixing on the Vintage Giltraps it doesn't feel right. Mark

I only use the strap if I'm playing a stand-up gig, which I don't do that often. I much prefer playing sitting down. I use the headstock for the strap. I have one guitar with a strap button on the heel but I didn't like using it. I use these things, which I find less of a faff if you want to swap straps about or remove them entirely: www.thomann.de/gb/planet_waves_dgs15.htm

I attach my straps to wherever the strap buttons are on the particular instrument I'm playing. If that's the heel (treble side) I'll attach it there. If it's the heel (or shoulder) on the bass side; I'll attach it there. If there's no heel/shoulder button; I'll tie it to the headstock. If there are no buttons at all, I won't buy the guitar (unless francis kindly adds one for me)

I make all my own straps and I know what length they need to be, and I always use Schaller straplocks in THE END !!! of the heel! Yes I know - I'd be burned as a witch in some places.
and in more detail :
