Hi all as you all well know I bought a fantastic new guitar (Martin SC13-E). Whilst giving it a clean today de-ai noticed a small scratch on the neck by the back of the body. After closer inspection it looks like it may be a crack in the wood. I am a bit gutted to say the least as this was not a cheap purchase. I have only had the guitar a few weeks if that. Could any of you have a look at the pictures I have posted, and give me your valued opinion on what I should do about this. Thanks in advance

Sorry to hear that. Could well be a crack. The hidden part of the neck may also be similarly affected. Maybe not a problem, maybe could be. Whatever, it's a new instrument so get straight back to where you bought it and ask for a replacement. Good luck.

Looks like a slight fault in the wood. It'll most probably stay like that and be no problem at all. But if it's on your mind and you can't be happy with it, it should be taken back.

What they said. Even if it's not a structural problem it's a blemish on a split new guitar that you didn't put there, so I'd take it back and ask for a replacement.

That is a crack in the grain of the wood, possibly only a shallow fault, but as the wood is subject to humidity changes it could worsen and spread along the grain. As it is a new guitar it should certainly go back for a replacement, not repair.
Bit of a bugger, but wood is a natural material and this stuff can happen.

After paying that much for a Martin I'd expect it to be flawless. Could it be teething troubles on a new model?

Serves you right for cleaning your guitar... how's it going to get any mojo if you keep cleaning it? Seriously: straight back to the shop, no repair - straight replacement.

Cracks are a hazard of guitar ownership but a crack in the neck seems rather worrying.

Take it back, that’s not acceptable.

Thank you all for your input and advice. I received an email today stating the supplier wants it back to inspect. They do not however have a replacement as there is no stock for the foreseeable.
They did ask the ship that I bought it from to ask me if I had tightened the bolts on the new dove tail patent imminent on the neck. I would never change string slept alone try to do something that is only meant to be done by authorised shops by Martin. I shall be returning the guitar sadly and making the decision about whether to wait for new stock which could be months and months or ask for my money back.
I did see on another forum (D18 forum) I think, that someone else had a problem with the same crack. They stated that the shipping of the guitar in only the padded gig bag was not good enough, as it still could be damaged and the instrument put under stress.
I am gutted as really liked it, but am upset that this has occured, and upset to think that the supplier may think I have adjusted it, when I haven't!

What a pain. Could you maybe get your money back and buy the same model from another supplier?

What a pain. Could you maybe get your money back and buy the same model from another supplier? I am speaking to them tomorrow, don't fancy waiting 6 months for stock. It is scarce in UK at this present time. Would possibly have to look for something else. Cort oc6 gold maybe....
