Well a bit different anyhow. Saw this in Gardiner Houlgate's catalogue for their next musical instrument sale. I've no idea what it sounds like or how it plays but it's a bit different innit.

And no, I'm not thinking about buying it.
It belongs in a cartoon.

Well I admire the work that's gone into both the instrument and the playing of it but I won't be buying one soon.
I'm sure that if I had one and learned to play it I'd feel differently but right now the strongest feeling I have is that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. Or perhaps only once.
It's not as bad as incest or Morris Dancing but I still feel it crosses a line.

It's nice to see that people living with multiple arm growth syndrome are finally being catered for.

It looks like the kind of thing made for some rock God-like figure but I see it was made in Germany in 1835? I can't quite imagine what kionf of music it was used for. The catalogue listing suggests this wasn't a one off!

Well, it is german, so of course it is a bit weird The proper name is probably "Harpolyre", or "fretted harp guitar". I didn't check the picture, but it should have 7 strings on the first neck in chromatic tuning, 6 strings on the middle neck in standard eadghe tuning (yes, h, not b. same note, different letter due to the fact that some overworked german monk while copying books by hand and working by the dim light of a candle mistook the b for an h) and 8 strings on the 3rd neck in diatonic tuning. The patent for this monster, however, is not german, but french. And no, I do not know these things, but I got curious about it and searched the web a bit.

For some reason I'm reminded of the Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs plays basketball and he's the players, the ref, the crowd and the cheerleaders all at the same time.

Can't imagine that works too well for good finger / hand positions on the neck! We're supposed to remember three different neck tunings at once!!!! However, as I have massive difficulties being able to play with just the one neck on the guitar, I'll maybe not put one on my list for Santa! Mark
