God, I love the first guitar she is playing, an 1827 Lacote. Always loved Dowlands music. Some great tunes and playing here and of course, some classy guitars.

That early guitar does sound good. Were they tuned the same as modern guitar?

Amazing how much like a lute it sounds. I suspect its in lute tuning with that capo (3rd string tubed to F#) and capo at fret 3. There was another guitarist many years ago called Kazuhito Yamashita who used to play huge orchestral works on the guitar. Wonder if they are related?

There was another guitarist many years ago called Kazuhito Yamashita who used to play huge orchestral works on the guitar. Wonder if they are related? This is nice. I love Renaissance and Baroque lute music and tried playing one for a couple of years, but found the instrument too much of a hassle.
I ended up with a 7-string classical capo'd at the 3rd, which let me play everything I'd been playing on the 7-course lute on a sensible instrument (sensible frets and tuning, stable tuning, and you could hold the dam' thing). It seemed to annoy the classical guitar *and* lute players in equal measure, but I only play for my own enjoyment.
Oh, and I wondered where I could get a flat capo wide enough, asked on a couple of forums, and Rick Shubb offered to make me one for the same price as a regular 12-string Shubb. That's good service!
