Excuse me, rather new here. I've spent some time seeking fellow players to get together, casually or to develop a performing group. I'm based Sevenoaks but obviously some travel is expected so west Kent, East Surrey, East Sussex, South London. I'm mainly offering bass - v small combo to balance with acoustics. Would like to maybe double on acoustic but I'm safer on bass. Tried 'Find my band' site - fine if you want to join another pub covers band (no) but useless so far otherwise. As a guide I'd say somewhere in the area of 'Transatlantic Sessions', popular songs reworked, originals, anyone interested in co-composing... playing is good but playing with others is gooder.

Very good post. It does seem very difficult to find like minded people of the type you describe. Pub covers band - NO, Trans Sessions - YES. The trouble is, in my situation, my abilities would barely cover a covers band never mind Trans Sessions John

In normal times, aren't there quite a few folky jam nights and singarounds and sessions in the Kent area? (Obvs, Kent is a big area of course) I went to Dog Gone Roots twice, when they had good invited guest performers and music-wise that sounds like it'd be your kind of thing. No idea if it's currently running what with the pandemic. www.facebook.com/groups/590802227627285I know of a couple of regular sessions in London which focus on americana, alt country, some old-time, some blues crossing over into Celtic connections type material. But as with the above, I've no idea if they are back up and running yet. But if I were you I'd check out the various Kent folk listings websites and see if there are any clubs back up and running - a good place to encounter like minded musicians, play with them, and see if it could lead to a band.

...also I'm pretty sure there are several Kent folk facebook groups. Definitely worth advertising there.

I have tried every folk club around here - mostly no response, a couple didn't understand what I was asking (just come along and do a song). I'll have a look round facebook. I'll check back here too - clue's in the name: 'Acoustic Soundboard'

This sounds like a fun idea, and I'm not *that* too far away - Sutton area, so about 40 minutes in the car on a good day. I've not played out since the Before Times so am a bit out of practice, and was doing the odd local open mic.
Definitely acoustic, too (I've even got an acoustic bass, although it's fretless). Mainly fingerstyle, blues and ragtime, bit of Celtic-ish stuff, a few songs.

Excellent, worth a chat. I'm safest on basses and have the 2 that I need (frettie and fretless), can offer nylon acoustic but a bit rusty. Music styles up my street. Best if I don't sing ! I'll see if I can find how to do a pm here....

Hi, I'd love to be involed with this, I'm a singer and guitarist doubling on Dobro and mandolin, but I'm a little too far west for it to be practical. Shame.
