I've just had this message from a friend. If any of you have good experiences buying in this price range, would you mind letting me know? Thanks.
"Hey Andy I'm looking for your guitar expertise! Paige is fancying a new guitar for Xmas so I'm trying to find a good one. Do you have any suggestions? Looking to get an electro acoustic preferably with a smaller body or even rounded perhaps. No idea on budget either haha, something between 200-400 sound reasonable?"

I bought my kids a used Taylor GS mini to share off Gumtree earlier this year. It’s 3/4 sized and I believe you can get a Taylor pickup for it. It’s a really good guitar. I paid About about 250 pounds ( in Aussie Dollars).

Personally I'd have a look at Yamaha, (if you want to buy new)found. I've always found that they out perform their price.

Sigma used to do parlour type guitars in this price range. Pretty sure some of them had pickups fitted.

Andy P - Andy, how old is Paige? And does she want to play just for her own amusement or to play "out", or even "out out" as well? Keith

Wow, some excellent recommendations there, thanks very much one and all. I'll pass those on and see what grabs his fancy. Keith ocarolan Paige is 26, plays mainly for her own amusement but we have persuaded to perform at the open mic now and again - she's got a lovely voice - so I think it would be a good idea to have something that sounds reasonable through an amp.

Andy P - thanks Andy. All the recommendations so far are excellent - I'd also give a look to some of the Vintage and Faith ranges too. It can be a bit of a poisoned chalice being asked to recommend for friends/family sometimes....! Keith

Most have pick-ups, some have USB input, too. A variety of sizes from Parlour to Baritone. Paul Brett - Vintage range

Alvarez all the way for a budget acoustic. Bone nut and saddle, LR Baggs electronics for around £300 to £500

Well, you've certainly pulled the stops out there and I'm most grateful to you all. It seems to me that it's never been easier to buy a guitar that's cheapish but still goodish. In the interests of avoiding being poisoned by that chalice Keith, I've sent all your suggestions on without comment! Thanks folks

I did play one of these in a music shop a few years back and was not hugely impressed. However, my disappointment came from the fact it sounded like a £300 electro-acoustic and nothing like an L-00 - so if all you want is a decent electro-acoustic, and aren't hoping for Robert Johnson vibes, it could well suit you just fine. I'll add my voice to the chorus here - you generally get a better sounding guitar for your money with Yamaha than with other guitars in the same price bracket. I've also got a Vintage that's a fantastic budget electro for the money, so I would heartily recommend playing a few of those if you can.
