Well after around 18 years my Korg chromatic tuner has finally given up the ghost and won't turn on (power button seems to have given up). I suppose I should finally upgrade to one of these new fangled clip on things.
I want a rechargeable one ideally, and I suppose they're all much of a muchness in terms of 'performance' but I thought I'd ask you lot if there were any to avoid or any that people really rave about. Budget I suppose up to 30 quid? I'm getting pestered from family for christmas gift ideas so seems like the ideal sort of thing someone can get me.

TC clip on Unitune works well at around £20. Polytune clip on at around £30 for something a bit fancier featured.

Budget I suppose up to 30 quid? I'm getting pestered from family for christmas gift ideas so seems like the ideal sort of thing someone can get me. I have a couple; an "MS" one (generic?) that's quite good and the battery lasts quite a while. Also have a Snark that seems to chew through batteries a bit quicker for some reason. I always preferred using a tuning fork but i bit the bullet and got a clip on and they're very handy and make on stage tuning a lot quicker. I would also have one over a soundhole one as it's easy to swap them over on guitars and doesn't interfere with the guitar tops resonance. Its probably minimal interference but any is unacceptable to me - which is also why I tend to remove pickguards when I can. Pickguards are tone-killers IMHO. Having said all that I also have a pedal tuner on one of my pedal boards that's quite handy as it cuts the signal to the amp out when tuning. Handy. I'm not always plugged into that though so clip-ons are used most.

Hello there,
I've quite recently bought a BOSS TU-05 which is RECHARGEBLE , and seems to work fine ( I use Boss 10 too)
It's about 20 quid .
Kind regards
Peter

I really liked my Polytune when I had it, although I, unfortunately, found out the hard way that they are not washing-machine compatible.
I'm currently using a Korg Pitchclip, which seems to work well enough and cost a lot less.

I’m another Polytune fan. Havung managed to keep it out of the washing machine, it has lasted remarkably well.

I used to have one if these and it seemed quite good. Just be wary about the thickness of the top of your guitar around the sound hole because it wouldn't fit my Brooks but fit perfectly well in the Martin that I used to own Phil

Up your budget and get the Peterson Strobo clip. Best tuner I’ve ever used.

I have a selection of tuners and work with lots of folks who have others.
You're right to assume that most of them are pretty good at identifying pitch but there are five aspects to consider:
* Sensitivity - will it pick up my guitar note without picking up the traffic outside? * Input options - clip on vs built in mic vs guitar lead input? * Form factor - do you have an existing pedal board or do you want something tiny that can stay on the guitar? * Robustness - doesn't matter how well it used to work * Power supply - battery type, battery availability, battery life.
Pedal - Boss Clip on - many, TC is nice but dear Built in mic - Airyware tuner app on your phone.

The D'Addario Nexxus 360 Rechargeable Guitar Tuner has recently been launched, I think - it looks good and is rechargeable. I have liked the D'Addario Micro Headstock Tuner. My favourite is the tc electronic PolyTune, though.

Another vote for the Polytune the first one I had was faulty and ate batteries I got it replaced and the replacement is fine. I still have an Intellitouch which is rechargeable but the TC is neater and more compact so gets used more often

Well, my SNARK clip on just died on me. I thought it was ok but I had to get my very old Korg GT-1 tuner out (it's at least 35 years old) and you know what, it works like it was brand new.
I guess they don't make stuff like they used to do.

Not clip on but I bought a Sonic Research Turbo Tuner 20 years ago and still use it every day. I don't think it can be bettered (check some of the vids vs. the Peterson stuff, for example). www.turbo-tuner.com/
